This was originally a comment I made on another post. Figured I make my own post
There are many unspoken rules about a persons GT/PSN
These rules don't necessarily equal a bad player, but it looks amateur and is just bad. Original names earn respect in the online gaming world, while names that break these rules (to a large degree) are seen as noobish.
Rules
- no variations of 'x' / 'X' in a persons name outside of the actual name, including space filler of any kind
*also applies to 'V'/'v', 'Z'/'z', and 'O'/'o'
- no numbers (more numbers = more scrub)
*there are few cases where a number is acceptable, but only in rare cases, usually when it coincides with the name in a recognizable way
- no random capitalization. It is ok to capitalize words, but no random capital letters within a word, as this is a major sign of a noob
- no numbers used as replacements to letters ( ex. 3=E, 4=A, 5=S, 12=R, etc.)
- name doesn't attempt to impersonate someone else, like a Youtuber or streamer for example
- no clan tags attached to name. Especially tags from professional gaming teams. (We know you're not on that team, you just look like an ass)
- name doesn't refer to drugs in any way
(Weed, Kush, 420blazeit, etc.)
If your name doesn't break any of these rules, then it is safe to say it is OG. Your name is who you are in the online world, try to keep it legit and not look like a noob.
Bonus Points
- name is unique
- name is funny and/or clever
- name doesn't use too many syllables or rolls of the tongue
(makes it easy for others to say and remember your name. Try to stray from having people give you a nickname.)
----------------------------------
I'll admit, I've broken a few of these rules in the past. Here are some examples of noobish names (a la my old GTs / PSN from middle school)
socialfreak1234 (1st name), TGUxLimiTZz, FaTaL_Limitz, liberty5337 (numbers are relevant, but arent recognizable to others), HacKeD ScOpEz (*shudders*)
Don't make the same mistakes I did. I may not have been bad at games back then, but those names definitely made me a noob in the eyes of the online world

Edited by Crimson Lupi: 8/22/2015 11:40:41 PMYes. The one thing that gets on my nerves is finding all the freaks with more x's in their name than a pornsite for Henry 8th's wives

Mine is kind of original. (Same as above) Do I get a cookie?

Mine is PgLx8bitowners. I broke the x rule and clan tag rule, but I had to break one because Xbox doesn't let you start your gt with a number.
-
Ubermorph3000 I made this one up by myself, then a few years later I learned about Dead Space
-
I saw one who's name was: -killbabies Is that original or does the little line make him a fkn noob
-
How's mine? GT: A Cosmic Cat
-
I mean YumekuiRaeun is my PSN but I usually just use Raeun for everything else My friends just call me Yume or my real name on PSN
-
Do I bypass the no number rule?
-
My ign is CommanderC2121 Yes, i know it has numbers, but the words and numbers all have meaning to me.
-
A while back me and a friend were playing with this guy with a name that had something to do with weed and we couldn't take him seriously so we just called him 420 blaze it the rest of the game.
-
They are unspoken because they are not real. People can make their ID whatever they want. I could literally be the #1 gamer in the world and be called xdragonslayer420xxxxxxx. The name doesn't make the player, the player makes the name.

My name is Anthony. 20 years ago, I was granted the nickname Normal. From 1998 to 2003, I was DJing regularly. Normal is already taken everywhere I go. So DjNormal is my PSNID. My middle initial is B. A few of my friends used to joke that if I changed my last name legally to Normal, I'd be A. B. Normal. Normal was short for "the normal looking boy who's really a freak." So it made a weird sort of sense. But abnormal would likely be harder to secure than normal, so... DjNormal it is.
-
I guess I'm totally fine then lol
-
NiceDartBud was taken:(
-
Who are you to tell people if their name is cool or not?
-

A guy on my friends list changes his gt at least once a month to match his cod clan.... and has 2 XBL profiles! just why... Also "Nebo" was taken so I put the first number that came to mind.
