Did you people even think about it ramifications of this? You guys are aware that the gally and other year one exotics are going to be "frozen in time", never to be upgraded ever again. Now, I could be a bitch on the forums, calling people idiots, or claim that they are bungie's sheep.... But I'm not going to be a bitch.
My question is, WHY you are okay with the gally ( and for the sake of having a good discussion: other one year exotics ) being left behind? For most of us, these exotics (like gally) were not easy to get. I just wonder why you guys are fine leaving them behind after countless months are grinding.
UPDATE: What I mean by calling people names, is that I could be toxic like some people are. I don't want to be that toxic person. All I wanted to have a good discussion about this.

People complain about bullet sponge bosses, so Bungie design bosses with cool new mechanics (eg Qodron, Skolas) People bypass these boss mechanics with Gjallarhorn and burn the boss down as quickly as possible. See the problem here? Gjallarhorn is massively OP and Bungie would have to design every boss fight from now until the end of the game around an OP weapon from year 1. It needs to die for the good of the game.
-
Well, I don't really think gally needs to be brought forward because I really want to try the new TTK exotics. And if it was brought forward everybody would be like: "Sleeper simulant? Nah -blam!- that, ballerhorn man, ballerhorn" or "Swords? -blam!-ing gay, ghorn is better" I want the opportunity to use those weapons and not the same boring ass launcher. Plus
I'd rather use my exotic slot on a primary.
-
If we didn't leave them behind few new guns would be used and come the end of destiny there would still be people using fatebringer and stuff like that.
-
Because I want to experience new content and gear, plus every exotic weapon(besides ps exclusives) has been sold at least once
-
Edited by Adam Dahlke: 8/21/2015 4:27:38 AMI think they need to just bring all the old exotics back and let us use more then 1 at a time. It would solve both problems. If we could use more than 1, than people will make interesting synergistic builds instead of just going for the "most OP" exotic. Meaning nobody will just use the same exotics month after month. Basically make it like Diablo 3. Combine legendary effects to make an awesome character build that's fun to play.
-
Because using the same weapons over and over is boring.
-
Honestly. I feel like what would be an awesome idea and I hope Bungie does is bring old exotics as redesigns into a new year. By leaving some behind, they have ones they could bring into Year 3 that will feel even newer and be forgotten about. It'd be fun and to new players it'd seem new, but to older it's nostalgic and we get to play with it again, but different. Evolved just like the game
-
imagine year 10 no exotics left behind, 200+ exotics to choose from. thats what i call variety.
-
Let me ask you this, would you still play this game if the only gun you could get was the Khostav, and you upgraded that for 10 years of the game? The game loses its point when you stop trying to get better gear, and having overpowered weapons that make everything too easy.
-
i just dont want to lose the mythoclast right after we got it back
-
You can never fully enjoy new content with one eye looking to the past.
-
They've never said they will NEVER be upgraded. Just not yet. They can always make new versions later, and will probably do to just to bolster sales in a new DLC later on down the road .
-
I got my gally from Xur last week. Was kicking ass long before I had it and will continue to kick ass when it becomes obsolete. Online gaming means we must constantly adapt.
-
I didn't get my gjallarhorn until april and I've been playing since day 1. I'm more than willing to leave it behind. I'm excited to use new weapons, not the same ones for 10 years.
-
Edited by Samo: 8/21/2015 3:48:34 AMDo you really wanna be using ghorn for 10 years. Get over yourself cry baby. This means you can actually use other guns in fights not just ghorn spam. It's great for the game to leave this behind.
-
I want to be free from the year one curse of current exotics. I would actually prefer if there weren't any year one exotics upgradeable to year two. Why? Take a look at Titans, for example. We're all using the same 3 armor pieces. Plus, they aren't really going away. I'll still pull out my nifty year one exotics for older content. Nothing is stopping us from giving Skolas a 42 Gjallarhorn salute, just for old time's sake. Yeah, I'll dismantle everything that I really didn't like to use in year one. The rest stays for when I want to use it. Basic stikes are low enough level that its okay to pull out old stuff.
-
Yeah it took me over 30 hard raids to get the Vex. But I don't care if I never use it again. Let's be honest, do I really want to be using the Vision of Confluence (my favorite primary) 10 years from now? Hell no! That would be soooooo boring. In my opinion, Bungie is making the right call by leaving some guns behind. Besides, there will be new exotics that are just as OP as the old ones. I think there will be a new gun in TTK that is just as powerful, if not more power than Gally.
-
Why? 1.10 year plan game 2.its a weapon on a game doesn't matter much 3.Destiny is about replayability. I have a clear understanding of that. Therefore I understand why they are making players actually have to grind instead of ascending the best weapons and taking the challenge out of it and making it boring. People got bored with HoW due to easy ascension. 4.its the console's answer to an mmo. It's an mmo. Meaning it's going to have to progress and move on.
-
It is Bungie's decision nothing I can do. No point crying over spilt milk. If I enjoy a game I will play it, and currently I still enjoy destiny, (I like shooting the baddies). I don't forsee not using particular guns anymore negatively affecting my enjoyment so I still plan on getting ttk. When I don't enjoy playing I will just stop.
-
It is what it is. Time to move on.
-
After playing so many MMOs, this doesn't mean $hit. Im ready for new guns. Hopefully they dont suck.
-
Cuz there's new exotics to try.
-
Edited by named jake: 8/21/2015 3:15:39 AMI'm assuming that they're reworking all of the year one exotics sooner or later. I'd expect to see all, or at least most of them beefed up to year two stats by the time the final 2 DLC'S are finished. We'll just have to wait and see though.
-
I don't really understand why some exotics over others are being stuck in year one. You can't ascend Year one Legendaries, okay I get that not super thrilled but I get it. But exotics? It's not like I can have 3 exotic weapons and four exotic armor pieces at once to me, this seems like they're not sure how to fix Ghorn without breaking it so in order to preserve the integrity of raids, strikes, tough encounters so they make it weak with the new content. But if that's the case, why make exotic heavies? They're supposed to be giant bursts of damage. And furthermore, if I can't take Ghorn into year 2 why nerf it? To preserve the integrity of year one content? Why? With TTK levels are being overhauled entirely right? So I can assume that the VoG and CE are scaled respectively meaning that base Vault is 16-ish and hard vault being 20 assuming that 1-20 is the equivalent of 1-30 power wise in vanilla. TLDR? I got you, this doesn't make sense.
-
I'm okay with it for the same reason that I can play and enjoy Halo; I'm not overly attached to individual weapons. I mean sure, I like the Fuel Rod Cannon, but once I run out of ammo with it I'll put it down and start using something else. So yeah, I've enjoyed using the current-gen exotics, but will I feel particularly sombre over them being phased out? No. I'll just find something else to enjoy. Where's the fun in using the same damn guns day to day anyway? The benefit of loot-driven games is the constant variety. Why ruin that by clinging to three guns?
-
I just like trying new things, I get bored if I spend more than 5 weeks using the same weapon
I think I have a problem..
