Did you people even think about it ramifications of this? You guys are aware that the gally and other year one exotics are going to be "frozen in time", never to be upgraded ever again. Now, I could be a bitch on the forums, calling people idiots, or claim that they are bungie's sheep.... But I'm not going to be a bitch.
My question is, WHY you are okay with the gally ( and for the sake of having a good discussion: other one year exotics ) being left behind? For most of us, these exotics (like gally) were not easy to get. I just wonder why you guys are fine leaving them behind after countless months are grinding.
UPDATE: What I mean by calling people names, is that I could be toxic like some people are. I don't want to be that toxic person. All I wanted to have a good discussion about this.

I'm a day one player and only got my ghorn last week from xur and from my experience, that thing is a crutch it simply deals way too much damage. Is it a blast (pun intended) to use of course, but then it becomes almost pointless to use any other exotic efficiency wise. The past week that's the only exotic I have been using, and it makes things so much easier, but in all honesty I have missed using other exotics and I actually have more fun when equiping other weapons (mainly lord of wolves, for some reason I love that gun) and not just gallying the hell out of everything. With the news of it becoming irrelevant (its still to be determined how irrelevant as given the new light system) I was actually relieved as I could go back to switching weapons around and not feel self-conscious about loosing efficiency in the game. Bungie need to deliver this time around, from what I have read they will include better mechanics in battles and not just bullet sponges that made the ghorn shine even more so I am fine with it being left behind. I have played a lot of rpg games and having to ditch a weapon for a better one is part of the journey, this rpgesque characteristic of destiny it what makes it stand out from other fps and as such you have to deal with the fact that you will have to leave some things behind to upgrade to better more powerful gear, and honestly, at least for me it makes it even more exciting. However I disagree on some of the decisions, for example, raid exotics, vex and necrochasm, I think should be upgradable, these are in part trophy weapons that we should always be able to carry around at every level content, plus they are not game breaking guns so we wouldn't be playing not as intended. And come on, the necrochasm was useless before this coming buff, let us play with it a bit in end game content. As for some other guns being left behind, I don't care, we had a year to play with them, granted some rng luck but its time to move on; would I have loved to have the ghorn from the second week when xur first sold it? Of course but I'm happy to see what new things bungie have in store for us, I actually think they will deliver this time as the destiny beta seems to be finally over
-
They are freezing them because they are over powered weapons. Bungie doesn't want anyone to be like must have this to play. They learned that with g-horn. Now all exotics that are balanced and worthy get to move up to year2 with all the new balanced exotics.

Edited by Wildcard1701: 8/21/2015 4:12:32 PMA big part of this game is not only using the weapons, but hunting them. Discovering the new exotics, using them, figuring out the hidden perks, building the best loadout for every situation, these things are much more interesting than just upgrading Gjallarhorn and using it forever. Is it a way to extend the grind? Absolutely. Does it make the grind mean something again? Absolutely. I can't tell you how bored I have been the last few months. Not because the content is stale, there's still plenty of fun stuff to do, but because if I don't use Fatebringer, Found Verdict/Black Hammer, and Gjallarhorn for pretty much all PvE activities I feel like I'm kneecapping myself. I so glad that they are giving me a reason to be excited about a purple drop again. I'm excited to try out the new and 2.0 exotics and experiment with loadouts. I will always have the memory of how the meta was in year 1. How Suros and Thorn ruled the Crucible at different points. How a seemingly average rocket launcher turned out to be a god weapon. This list goes on. Gjallarhorn is awesome, and it works exceedingly well as a boss killer, but the appeal of finding the next Gjallarhorn just seems more appropriate for a loot-centric game like Destiny and much more fun than just using the same old gear for 10 years.

There's going to be so many new fun guns to chase that I'm excited Bungie is giving me an incentive to go out and search for them. We all wanted Gally because it was the best. Now there will a new "best" to want. The chase is part of what makes this game fun. If we all had everything that was the best this game would lose a lot of what drives people to keep playing it. Plus I'm mostly a pvp player and my grind is trying to improve my skills so I REALLY don't care about gally

Most people are to hyped right now to realise that when the ttk rush is over and they find out most new weapons are less powerfull en unique gameplaywise than our old guns and then they start complaining. Mark this...it will happen
-
I have this thought that they will eventually allow the Ascension of our year one guns. May be 2 games from now. If not its whatever. I already planned on not getting rid of my favorite things. I will continue to use them along with new weapons and armor. Does it suck that we can't take our shit with us? Yes but I'm fine with it either way.

It's a game. That's why.
-
Just watch sleeper stimulant replace it. XD

Edited by ZionFury7: 8/21/2015 4:08:38 PMNothing will ever measure up to the Vision of Confluence or Fatebringer, Black Hammer and The Gjallarhorn 3 pack Weapons Combo!!!!!

Edited by Pretender: 8/21/2015 4:08:31 PMWell couple of points as you seem to want to have constructive reasoning. 1. Tbf in the stream, they said not all exotics are being upgraded yet so it'll get frozen at 365 (190) yes. But they may add it with future updates. 2. I'm ok with it because I wanna play with new weapons, and I don't wanna be in a situation of "oh I better equip ghally" for an easy way out of a problem. Finding more solutions to a problem is a good thing. And it may even force players to become better. So yea. Leave em behind, I'm cool with that. That being said. I'm gunna miss my MiDA :-( I do love that weapon.
-
Because the biggest adventures in Destiny cake from running down these epic guns. Sure, using them was fun, but the fact that it took me 11 months to find a wild Gally drop is my best story Destiny. I'm looking forward to more stories in year two.
-
Didn't really grind. Just played a game that I enjoyed with all my old highschool friends made some new ones and had a good time. All the exotics were just a byproduct. Like a happy mistake
-
So what happened when you get Gjallarhorn after the taken king?
-
I'm sorry but gally was the best feeling to have when it dropped I don't know about you but TTK will not for-fill my feelings like the gally did GOD BLESS GHJALLERHORN
-
I'm ok with it because at the end of the day, it's a game that I'm not going to cry my heart out over it. I've had fun and I'm sure I'll continue to do so. And because I managed just fine without it for so long. Get over it.
-
Knowing that some of you exotics won't be going to Taken King is like having candy. Even though it's tasty, It will eventually go away, and then you'll be sad, but there's more candy to have, and you'll be happy again. Unless you're Steve. Steve hates everything.
-
I want to keep using my rune longsword, even though jagex is coming out with a new more powerful dragon sword, I should be able to use my rune sword because I earned it! This is what you sound like.
-
I think the honest answer is that they are bad at balancing weapons and they want to start year two with less outliers and must have weapons. By controlling the amount of weapons brought forward, it makes balancing easier going forward.
-
You want an heartfelt answer? I saw Gjally not getting upgraded to year 2 because of the community itself. Always wanting people to have one to do end game content, people bitching about this, people posting videos about how fast they can kill a boss with 6 people with gjallys, the backlash of burns being removed from skolas so that gjally rush wasn't effective. We, as a community, made it very clear to Bungie that we are too reliant on this single weapon. So, if you're looking to blame someone for the gjally not getting upgraded, blame any and every person who has ever bitched about not getting into a group/being kicked out of a group for not having one, bitching about taking burns out of skolas, and people restricting access to groups because a person didn't have a gjally. The last one is the main perpetrator. About the other exotics, some are going to year two, others not, and that's okay. Time to move on, evolve, and push forward. I've been on and off of WoW and other MMO's for years now, so this doesn't effect me. Who it does effect are those who seem to want a bland fps, or don't want change. If you don't want change, that's fine, but we were already told Destiny was a 10 year WiP.
-
I guess cause I've gotten lots of exotics. They aren't that special.
-
My opinion: I'm fine with it. I'm ready for new stuff. I don't want to use the same stuff forever. I've played other MMOa in the past and Destiny is no different. You grind away for some item you want, you enjoy it for awhile and than a new expansion comes out with newer and better items. I know other people feel different. They are allowed their opinion.

Does no one understand how the new light level works? It's not about having 280 or 160, you can equip gally and still do a shit ton of damage if you have all good gear. If I'm correct, if you have everything else maxed(gear, guns, class armor, and ghost shell) your gally will only do 5% less damage than a 280 rocket launcher. It's not about the singular damage output of a weapon anymore, everything you equip will effect your damage and defense. Please do a little more research before you make yourself look like an idiot on the forums. *drops mic*
-
Because i don' t wanna play with Gally for 10 years.
go ahead, call me a idiot!
-
In the stream they said there will be more upgrades later you can probably still upgrade them just not at release

Edited by ZionFury7: 8/21/2015 3:56:04 PMIf Bungie fails to deliver us not just a kick azz dlc but fails to deliver new kick azz weapons, there will be not just thousands leaving this Activision trash of a game, but it will be millions dropping and quitting Destiny like a bad habit, it will be just as bad as leaving a codependent relationship. Bungie's legacy is on the line, TTK is their last shot at Redemption from all the mistakes and 1st year blunders. Bungie is aware of the risks shelving and forsaking all the favorite legendary & exotic weapons achieved by gamers in the first year but it's a step they're willing to take for the sake of progress. The ramifications are detrimental to Bungie Studios legitimacy and longevity. Halo franchise belongs to 343 Microsoft now and the ride is over if their new brand name product called Destiny does not live up to its own hype train......

Lol because gjallarhorn became the biggest crutch in the game, and things must move on just because it was good in year 1 doesnt mean it has to be good in year 2
