I'm doing a report on the aforementioned topic. Though I understand the Flood isn't exactly the greatest place to ask this question, I think it'd be interesting to see what pops up.
So Flood? Have you seen any recent examples of gender discrimination within the news? Not stories on gender discrimination, but stories where the news agency itself discriminated against women/men? If so, I would greatly appreciate a link to said story.
Any more?

There was a thread here a while ago about a woman reporter not being hired because she was overweight, something that wouldn't have been an issue if she was a guy. I don't have any names, but someone here should remember it.

I would suggest looking up stories about forced sex (not sure if -blam!- is censored). Pay attention when the article uses terms like "victim" or "survivor."

You could look up the confusion about Obama's predominantly male choices for positions in his second term, and discuss this administration's views and positions on women's issues since he was elected. It'd be a great starting point as it is both A) relevant, and B) consisting of points on both sides of the issue, allowing for actual discourse and examination as opposed to a slant on one side of the issue or the other. Here's some starting points if you're interested: http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2013/01/dont-be-surprised-by-obamas-beltway-boys-club-cabinet/267064/ http://www.npr.org/blogs/itsallpolitics/2013/01/14/169363195/obamas-woman-problem-a-problem-of-his-own-making

>asks questions about gender discrimination >OP implies that only women can be discriminated against by gender. Oh the Fey.

Any news story that doesn't specifically address how discriminating against women is bad is a clear example of the "male gaze" in our news media. In order to empower women, our news outlets must consistently and regularly tell us that women are victims.
