Overall the stream was good information, but I feel bringing up year 2 weapons made people ask about year 1 weapons and etheric light (which wasn't mentioned on stream). Therefore I have an idea, but doesn't allow year 1 weapon ascension/infusion if this is the path Bungie want to go down.
Personally my favourite thing about Raid/PoE primaries is the elemental damage, and it is this I would like to carry on instead of having to go through the tedious grind of hoping RNG grants me a higher level primary weapon with the same damage I have on plenty of older but weaker weapons.
Idea:
- A year 1 primary weapon and an etheric light can be used to add an elemental damage to a year 2 primary weapon.
- A year 1 special/heavy weapon and an etheric light can be used to change the elemental damage on a year 2 special/heavy weapon.
What does this do? I feel it adds replay ability to the year 1 end game material. Say you have a year 2 primary you love, but wish it could be more useful when facing the Fallen. You could go back to Vault of Glass or Crota's End and try to earn yourself a spare Fatebringer or Oversoul Edict to upgrade your beloved year 2 primary with Arc damage and make it even more valuable.
Thoughts?

I had the same idea a few days ago. It would be a cool system

Interesting idea, can't think of any negative repercussions at the moment.
