I was thinking today that crucible was the only activity that didn't have any kind of glimmer consumable, and I had an idea about how a crucible glimmer consumable could be implemented. Also, it could be used make crucible the #1 place to go when you need glimmer, depending on your success in the crucible. I don't know about anybody else, but I kinda hate glimmer farming, and I especially hate that I'm forced to farm it sometimes ( "I could be doing literally any thing else, but no. I'm gonna kill the same guys over and over.....for an hour.......*sigh*" ).
Anyway, how this consumable would work is it would basically be a gamble. You consume the item, and every guardian you kill will drop a few hundred glimmer. Additionally, earning medals in the game will net you some bonus glimmer ( e.g.- If you get a triple down medal and a way of the gun, you'll get glimmer from each of the three enemies you killed, plus a bonus for the triple down and for way of the gun). The catch, is that you'll lose glimmer every time you die while the consumable is active, and not just a paltry amount either. The amount you lose would be the same, or nearly the same, as the amount you gain. That way, you're only guaranteed extra glimmer based on your medals, and you'll have to go positive in the match to make a profit based on kills.
You'd be betting on yourself going positive, with your glimmer pool at stake if you fail. This could provide a necessary skill based reward for crucible as well as a legitimate and fun means to collect more glimmer without have to grind the exclusion zone for an hour
Also, because I can already see a potential abuse, it should be stipulated that it only works on guardians that are not in your fireteam. Barring that, the consumable should not work during rumble matches. These two options are simply suggestions on how to avoid boosters getting free glimmer without trying.
