As year one is drawing to a close, we have learnt so much over the last two weeks in regards to changes we can expect to see. The one that definitely has drawn a lot of attention has been the fact that our year one weapons will be staying just that, year one weapons and will not be progressing. While Deej did say not to dismantle anything till they say more about how its all going to work, people have become agitated about the fall of these weapons.
I myself am excited for new weapons, I feel my load out has become stale using the same weapons over and over again. And I can understand why Bungie want people to progress on to new weapons. But I will always have a soft spot for all of these weapons and I hope they have a good plan in place that wont make them completely obsolete.
In saying all this I feel that there could be a good way to pay tribute to the past and to year one weapons by giving one of them the ultimate upgrade. I want to make a suggestion for 'Fatebringer". Now before you hit that reply button to yell at me or to tell me how all unfair it is year one weapons are going away, I don't care. This is just a suggestion to give a nod to the past an immortalise arguably one of the best Legendary PvE guns in the game right now.
So my suggestion is this, why not have a quest line where 'Fatebringer' can turned into an exotic weapon? The idea has a lot of merits and I can explain them.
As we all know 'Fatebringer' drops at the Templar (and yes I know there are still people who do not have it yet), and we know there will be more mission in the new expansion involving going back to the Vault of Glass. So if by chance in that mission we come across a ghost that eludes to a hidden power in the gun. We then take this knowledge back to the Gun Smith who unlocks this power, but like in other exotic bounties, this power needs to be fed before it can come to its full potential. So we need to go and kill Vex with the gun, but not ordinary Vex, it should be specific Vex targets. Kind of like the Fallen targets that you take out for the Queen, but you can just load up a Venus Patrol and go hunt them. They should be hidden with enough challenge that the bounty cannot be finished in one play session. So obviously once the gun has been fed with death of these Vex, we return to the gun smith. He takes the gun and does his Mojo on and returns it to you, but now as an Exotic version of the Fatebringer. I would call it 'Time's Fate'. The wording when you look at the gun could say 'Not even Time can stop Fate from being brought', or maybe a reference to Vault of Glass or something a long those lines.
When you think about 'Fatebringer' and how the weapon is, it truly should be an exotic already. So if there was a way to make an exotic version who wouldn't go on that quest? The way I see it is a lot of people who already own it would jump at a chance to go on this quest, and it would get new guardians in the game (and existing guardians) going back to the Vault to try and get 'Fatebringer' and then trying to progress its story on. So it gives us a legacy of year one and the first Raid in game, and it also gives us a year one weapon that we have grown to love into a new experience.
So I can already hear the arguments as to why this would be a bad idea, and how it is OP already. But what if a side effect of the 'Fatebringer' becoming an exotic is it loses the Arc damage. The increase in power (to meet the new damage level that exotic will go to in the Taken King) at the cost of a burn. Its a sacrifice I would happily take. So as an exotic the 'Fatebringer' would still have the hitting power of an exotic and still be usable in game.
So just a crazy idea I had

Someone who isn't whining about having to get new guns?... Are you in the right place? Lol but new guns are nice and all but if they do add a way to ascend weapons it should be a unique and challenging thing for raid weapons and exotics.
