Alright, by now I think it's pretty obvious that this is something that every guardian wants (whether they know it or not ;)
Disagree? Well let me try to convince you otherwise, and before you say anything... I know adding customs has been suggested many times before, but if we ever do get them ingame there's something else I would love to see that I think would benefit Destiny in a very positive way. Something I've never seen suggested before (custom gun selection, more details below) so I figured this was worth making a post about just in case someone at Bungie ever sees it.
Regardless, if you want to see Custom/Private matches in Destiny... then just sign this! Every bit of support helps!
Even if you've bumped/signed other threads talking about adding customs.. the more support we show for wanting custom/private matches added ASAP, the sooner they will be! (Hopefully)
So first off, if Bungie were to just add Private Matches to the game as is, even with no custom options (like disabling Heavy Ammo Spawn/Supers/Final Round etc) we could at least get some ladders & tournaments going on sites like GameBattles and we could finally start building a real competitive community for this game! I feel like many true competitive players really don't spend that much time on Destiny anymore (if they even still play it) because it's just not competitive at all. Every playlist (even Trials) is just a social playlist (everyone plays everyone) and for hardcore players who play with each other, that can get real boring.. real fast. Good games are pretty hard to find and they are just too few and far in between. Which makes me want to rant about how much this game needs a ranking system (at least ONE playlist, something like the old HALO 1-50) but I digress, that topic deserves it's own post.
Normally when I talk about this with people, I just hear the same few things over and over... Either you just don't think Destiny is a competitive game, and you don't think it'll ever have the potential to be one, or you're simply a PVE player who is bothered by the PVP players always requesting changes to be made to your favorite guns. In the end, you don't really play crucible and you just love this game for everything else that it has to offer. You don't want changes meant for PVP to affect your PVE experience (all understandable) but before you say "NO! Destiny does not need custom matches!" just try to be open minded for a minute, and hear me out...
Since day one, it's been clear that people have been talking about how broken the PVP is.. how unbalanced it is etc, and Bungie has been trying to fix this by adjusting the gun types as a whole and how they work (which intentional or not, affects them in PVE). It's hard to make guns perfectly balanced in PVE and PVP at the same time. But honestly everything that is unbalanced could easily be fixed in one way or another within Custom Matches. I mean personally I believe Destiny has the potential to be a great competitive game, I love the movement, gun variety and abilities etc, it's just a refreshing change of pace. With the right changes, it could really shine in the competitive scene.
So this is my idea, just imagine if Bungie not only gave us custom options like disabling heavy ammo drops, and final round etc but they actually gave us a selection of Custom Guns to choose from... Now obviously we would still have the choice to play with the guns we have earned if we want to. But if we wanted to use these custom guns, they would be there to provide a more competitive match. Where the players Melee, Grenades, Super, Class Perks & of course skill.. are really the only separating factors among the players in game. Now I'm sure everyone wouldn't choose the same custom gun for every situation, having such a variety of guns in Destiny is one of the things that makes it great. But everyone would always have the same choice of guns, and they would be able to change their selection at any point in the game (Just like how we can now with the guns that we've earned). But there would only be one custom gun of each type, one Hand Cannon, Sniper, Shotgun, Rocket Launcher & Pulse Rifle etc that was actually designed by Bungie to be fair and competitive. There could be a swap button that would change your inventory display to "Custom Guns" or "Earned Guns" and we could have an option in the settings that was "Allow Custom guns only" or something along these lines. This would immediately eliminate the frequently heard "You only killed me because you have THAT gun, and you happen to have THOSE perks". It would completely level the playing field, and allow the differences of all the sub-classes to actually shine more, and it would be less about what gun is being used, but what class and how well. Plus if someone new to the game actually wanted to try a competitive game out with friends... They wouldn't need to grind the game for hundreds of hours just to get the same guns with the best perks just to be able to compete!
I love playing sweaties, and for those of you who don't know what that is... It's basically the only form of a private match that anyone has been able to accomplish in Destiny since the game released. You get 6 players total who want to run some good games in a party chat, and then you have to communicate well enough while searching for a match until you actually match each other. Then you just stay in the game and continue to play each other until you either decide to stop or someone lags out, which then forces you to back out to restart the whole process of trying to match up against each other again. Which is a really tedious thing to have to deal with, when all you want to do is play with AND against your friends.
Anyways, I think this would allow Destiny to start building a real competitive community, and regardless of if you see yourself as a competitive player or not. Tournaments would happen, and it would do nothing but help Destiny in the long run. Not only for the competitive players either, but for everyone who plays the game. Because tournaments are great for exposure (not saying Destiny really needs help in that department) but it desperately needs help in the competitive scene. Plus more exposure = more players/revenue, which in turn = more content! But oh wait "Destiny already has enough, if not too much content already!" said absolutely no one.. ever. lol, people love this game, and honestly we want all the content we can get! So ya I think Custom Matches would be a HUGE addition for Destiny, and Bungie could actually design these custom guns to be a more equal and competitive alternative as opposed to nerfing certain types of guns as a whole just to make them more balanced in PVP (which will ultimately affect the PVE side of things as well, unintentional or not). IMO this would be better for everyone.
wow, so if you actually read that WALL of text, lol what do you think? Do you want to see Custom/Private matches in Destiny? and if you do, what do you think about having a selection of custom guns that are actually designed to be more equal and competitive? Would you use them?
