Very much agreed here, but if you realize that this effect is real and common, I believe it's very much a formidable alternative to your very effective thought process, if you play it right. Yes you play harder when you have another life-but don't save it when you think your mates can pick you up. Use it and rebuild carefully-it should only take a few minutes to regain your super.
