This is true, I was more directing my useless comment towards things that hold more merit such as iron banana, nightfall, and future story stuff. They'll never really be useless, but definitely less effective. It'll be like playing on hard mode all the time. I just think of it as beating the elite four without training your Pokemon before hand.
