I don't think I need to tell anybody that there's been a lot of salt thrown around recently by folks lamenting the fact that they had to "earn" their Haller Haller Get Gjaller, and now anybody can just buy one.
The thing is though, by definition, if anybody that had one from a drop did actually earn it, they did so only by running the one activity that granted them the drop (and by extension getting to whatever level let them run that activity). That could have been the very first thing they had ever run that could grant you an exotic, and they'd have landed on the Jellyhorn. Nothing else affected the chances, and any belief to the contrary illustrates the Gambler's Fallacy.
That led me to thinking, what did those of us who got Ballerhorn in a drop really do to "earn" the (until recently) rarest of guns?
So without further ado, I'd like to be the first to recount the legendary tale of how I "earned" my GGhorn.
Comment with your "epic tale" and let's see just how hard we all had to work! ;)
I hopped into a 5 man Normal Atheon fight and died during it.
#Gjallarhorn #IEarnedIt
tl;dr ITT share stories of any low effort "feats" you accomplished that gave you a Gjallarhorn drop, demonstrating the lack of a correlation between effort and reward, thus disproving that RNG counts as "earning" any more than Xûr does.
Edit: Now with 20% more quotation marks so everyone gets the joke
Edit 2: It occurs to me that in the original post I failed to mention the fact that for some, their YOLOhorn dropped after a particularly difficult feat, such that they really do feel that they earned theirs. My point is not to lessen the sense of accomplishment anyone felt after acquiring their Yellerhorn, but rather to highlight the fact that due to RNG, many of us "earned" ours in really easy/silly ways, and to invite the people who are sad/angry/disappointed at everyone's favorite Splatoon cosplayer to think about whether RNG really qualifies as earning something.
Cheers, all, and welcome to the Wolfpack!
Edit 3: Alterations to second paragraph regarding the description of what anyone who got a Gjally drop did that directly resulted in that drop. Also added tl;dr

I got mine from a Chryptarch package pre Chryptarch and engram patches. RNG was really on my side that day. As a side note, the only exotics that can be earned are the ones from the exotic bounties (even those ones require RNG to get the bounty).

I ran two nightfalls and got 12 strange coins each time which was more than enough to buy it
-
I got my 2nd Gjallarhorn after a crucible match in which I Fist of havoc'd an interceptor and won the game. I felt proud and I felt like that was a well deserved Gjallarhorn. ~TheGreatNike

I was helping a first time group of 29/30 players through Crota's End last month or two months ago and it dropped for me. Fourth Horseman, No Land Beyond, The Last Word, and Suros Regime also dropped for other members of the group. Most exotics I've ever seen drop from a single activity.

My first exotic weapon! Not long after release date and shortly after I got to lv20 with my Warlock. Was in VOG first chest!!! Happy times!!
-
The day after crota came out I sat in there and explored the pits (Because everyone else was trying to finish it and didn't want to venture around) after me and a few friends ran it and couldn't get past the bridge because we didn't have enough people and everyone else was to stubborn to play with 30s and 29s. so I was exploring around dying countless times and finally ran into a door, backed into and pulled out my ghost to leave because I was getting bored and heard it open, found a chest, opened it and received my gjallarhorn. oooh boy was that a pleasant surprise too.

Funny story: I was doing a nightfall on archon. I died and watched the last 1/3rd of the battle while crack in' jokes and saying "I'll probably get a gally for this" ...aaaaand I did. My friend who had been grinding as long as I had didn't and it was sad. You only earn stuff in this game in that you play the game. A person who logs on and plays has just as much right to gally as anyone else.

I earned it from many many crucible matches that awarded blue engrams that turned into strange coins.

It was 3 am, the dark below had recently dropped and I was on a fireteam of 5 people, the sixth person fell asleep on us. We were sweating over the fact the we're about to get past the weekly reset before we too the weeks run. With 3 minutes to spare we kill the deathsinger and I get my 30th radiant energy Fast forward a few months and we'll over 200 strange coins and xur sells the ghorn. I'm all like "welp! So much for 'it's out of the loottable', come to papa!"
