I don't think I need to tell anybody that there's been a lot of salt thrown around recently by folks lamenting the fact that they had to "earn" their Haller Haller Get Gjaller, and now anybody can just buy one.
The thing is though, by definition, if anybody that had one from a drop did actually earn it, they did so only by running the one activity that granted them the drop (and by extension getting to whatever level let them run that activity). That could have been the very first thing they had ever run that could grant you an exotic, and they'd have landed on the Jellyhorn. Nothing else affected the chances, and any belief to the contrary illustrates the Gambler's Fallacy.
That led me to thinking, what did those of us who got Ballerhorn in a drop really do to "earn" the (until recently) rarest of guns?
So without further ado, I'd like to be the first to recount the legendary tale of how I "earned" my GGhorn.
Comment with your "epic tale" and let's see just how hard we all had to work! ;)
I hopped into a 5 man Normal Atheon fight and died during it.

tl;dr ITT share stories of any low effort "feats" you accomplished that gave you a Gjallarhorn drop, demonstrating the lack of a correlation between effort and reward, thus disproving that RNG counts as "earning" any more than Xûr does.
Edit: Now with 20% more quotation marks so everyone gets the joke
Edit 2: It occurs to me that in the original post I failed to mention the fact that for some, their YOLOhorn dropped after a particularly difficult feat, such that they really do feel that they earned theirs. My point is not to lessen the sense of accomplishment anyone felt after acquiring their Yellerhorn, but rather to highlight the fact that due to RNG, many of us "earned" ours in really easy/silly ways, and to invite the people who are sad/angry/disappointed at everyone's favorite Splatoon cosplayer to think about whether RNG really qualifies as earning something.
Cheers, all, and welcome to the Wolfpack!
Edit 3: Alterations to second paragraph regarding the description of what anyone who got a Gjally drop did that directly resulted in that drop. Also added tl;dr

Skirmish, led the team with a 1.2 I think and we won. I've also seen a guy go 2 kills and 8 deaths in clash and get one.
-
Crota!!!!!
-
Ooooh boy. First one my roommate got for me, he used my Hunter to play on my profile but did Crucible almost exclusively. One day he says hey, I wanna try Nightfall. One time. Never before and never since. He gets Gally. Personally the first one that I myself earned was off the Deathsinger when I two-manned Crota a couple weeks ago. I'd say that it was hard, but I solo Crota on the reg now cuz it's such a freakin easy raid, so no I didn't earn it. However I did feel a major sense of completion and accomplishment and far less drive to grind out anything on this game anymore, which makes playing more pleasant!

Well I've gotten 8 so far but I bought my first one from xur back in week 2, the the very next day I got one from a legendary engram. I've also got 2 from the same raid before.

CE hard mode Crota
-
Which of the 5
-
1)nightfall 2) Crota hard 3) gorgon chest VoG

First: Heavy Legendary Engram Second & Third: bought from Xur Fourth: dropped from nightfall the week after Xur sold them. Totally killed the shear and utter joy and shock of a RNG drop after buying two the week before. Guess the loot table has been opened up.

made a titan was a level 2 in crucible saw a level 23 get it at the bottom of the team, got pissed switched to my warlock played skirmish, finished 2nd on team and got one lol i wasnt mad anymore

I feel like I'm the one of few who did something impressive when obtaining Gjallarhorn... 43 Kills in a crucible match then BAM that beautiful beast pops up on the rewards screen.
-

Ive been playing since Day 1 putting in a stupid level of monomaniacal gamer hours in... Let`s put it this way... the term from Borderlands for Vault Hunters, grinders, Was made with me in mind. Lol Anyways I was running my first character, a hunter, on a solo Nightfall. So after killing Valus with mah throwin knife - stick around yaraghl - I got my first horn. Keeping in mind this was a couple of weeks before the nerf and after a year of obsessive compulsive grinding. So when Xur was selling it... i was happier than when it was a drop because i hate RNG. Yeah. I bought my 2nd horn. Could`ve easily bought a 3rd... or 4th or nth. And i earned each of the two. Anyone who says I didnt earn it or Im not a "real gamer" will get Three fingers from me, Laughter And hmming of Irem`s hit game which defined a... type... for generations. I could tell you of that game just as the Speaker could tell us the history, in game. But i wont. ;) /sleepy exo hunter tale

I earned like most everyone else. AFK in a crucible match. Went 0 - 12.
-
My friend "earned" his Gjallarhorn by taking last place in a game of combined arms. He got 2 kills and 18 deaths. We were just having fun by trying to run people over with sparrows.
-
Played for 740 hours and then bought it when i realized destiny is too cruel to give me one.
-
Wtf you EARNED your gally by dying?? Really are you a distant relative of smoggypluto ??
-
Got it from lighthouse chest
-
I got mine from a Chryptarch package pre Chryptarch and engram patches. RNG was really on my side that day. As a side note, the only exotics that can be earned are the ones from the exotic bounties (even those ones require RNG to get the bounty).
