I don't think I need to tell anybody that there's been a lot of salt thrown around recently by folks lamenting the fact that they had to "earn" their Haller Haller Get Gjaller, and now anybody can just buy one.
The thing is though, by definition, if anybody that had one from a drop did actually earn it, they did so only by running the one activity that granted them the drop (and by extension getting to whatever level let them run that activity). That could have been the very first thing they had ever run that could grant you an exotic, and they'd have landed on the Jellyhorn. Nothing else affected the chances, and any belief to the contrary illustrates the Gambler's Fallacy.
That led me to thinking, what did those of us who got Ballerhorn in a drop really do to "earn" the (until recently) rarest of guns?
So without further ado, I'd like to be the first to recount the legendary tale of how I "earned" my GGhorn.
Comment with your "epic tale" and let's see just how hard we all had to work! ;)
I hopped into a 5 man Normal Atheon fight and died during it.
#Gjallarhorn #IEarnedIt
tl;dr ITT share stories of any low effort "feats" you accomplished that gave you a Gjallarhorn drop, demonstrating the lack of a correlation between effort and reward, thus disproving that RNG counts as "earning" any more than Xûr does.
Edit: Now with 20% more quotation marks so everyone gets the joke
Edit 2: It occurs to me that in the original post I failed to mention the fact that for some, their YOLOhorn dropped after a particularly difficult feat, such that they really do feel that they earned theirs. My point is not to lessen the sense of accomplishment anyone felt after acquiring their Yellerhorn, but rather to highlight the fact that due to RNG, many of us "earned" ours in really easy/silly ways, and to invite the people who are sad/angry/disappointed at everyone's favorite Splatoon cosplayer to think about whether RNG really qualifies as earning something.
Cheers, all, and welcome to the Wolfpack!
Edit 3: Alterations to second paragraph regarding the description of what anyone who got a Gjally drop did that directly resulted in that drop. Also added tl;dr

Edited by Mr Ilax: 8/18/2015 5:44:41 PMAs I was chilling at the tower waiting for Xur to arrive I heard arguing down. In the bar. Thinking that it was some guardians arguing over what song to play on the jukebox or who was picking up the bar tab. I became dismayed, for as I grew closer to the arguing guardians I started to hear words like "Earn" and "Gjallerhorn". Just as I was about to come around the corner the sounds of arguing turned into a muffled scream and laughter. Fearing for someone's safety I sprinted around the corner and took into full view of what had transpired. An elitist and a casual had been arguing about whether or not Xur should sell Gjallerhorn again. It would seem that the elitist got so worked up, that when he bent over to take take a deep breath, he inadvertently shoved his head up his ass. Being the helpful sort of fellow, I pulled a elitist's head out his ass. As he gasped for breath he started choking, I slapped him on the back and he spit out 17 strange coins. Just then, I heard the clock strike and Xur appeared before my eyes. What did he have? The majestic horn of Ragnarok. I cleaned off the strange coins and handed them to Xur, securing me one of these awesome weapons. On my way out, I thanked the elitist for his contribution. And me and the casual went on to go slay many minion of darkness.

I'm going to be honest and say that I bought Gjallahorn. 😕

Nightfall gave me 3. Atheon gave me 1. Crota gave me 2. Deathsinger gave me 1. Crota's abyss chest gave me 2. Rahool gave me 2. And I bought one from xur when he first sold it.

I bought mine from xur

I love posted like this the people that bleet on about how they earned thier gally they grinded 50 crotas or got 100 kills in crucibal....... you DID NOT EARN IT you were lucky and the rng gave it to you, no skill involved. The only real people that earned it were the people that bought the thing from xur last week simply because you had to earn your strange coins from completing weekly strikes to be able to buy it (now prepares myself for backlash to this post)

I earned my Gjallarhorn this way~ for 3 months prior to August 8th {my birthday} I had to slowly & methodically convince my fiancé that not only was Destiny going to end my streak of purchasing about 3-10 games per month (some inexpensive pre owned, some not), but that she had to buy it for me (obviously a month later). My collection is and was about 160+. After I got it, the ongoing struggle to not get the constant "Ra ra bla bla bla" and pulling the wifi like she did the first run on VoG (right before Atheon) is still ongoing. Then one day Xûr sold it. I bought it. The router is now located next to my playstation, I still hear the bitchfest everyday and no sign of her letting up. I still persist in my everyday struggle to play unscathed of her ranting. She had even took my flatscreen last year and threw it off the dresser on to the floor, giving fat black lines that permanently ran down the center of the screen (non Destiny related incident). I had to take a piece of scotch tape and draw a reticle with Sharpie to aim correctly after that. When I got my taxes back I bought a 60 inch and plopped it right against the wall 3 ft from the bed :). She can't afford to replace it so it's safe. So... I earned my Gally. Btw... In several different posts following the inclusion of the jukebox, I told everyone that if and when he sold it, it would be in that room. Why else would they have put it there. Why indeed, dance party. Which is exactly what happened when I entered the room. 7 guardians dancing. Funny enough I didn't hear music and was like WTF, till I realized I had the music muted. I also posted on a post that had Howard Stern talking about Gjallarhorn on the Thursday befor Xûr I was calling it (not Xûr selling it), I would receive a Ghorn before reset. I knew I was getting it. I thought it'd be a different way, even freaked after I changed my emblem to the old Dead Orbit one and after a Crucible match the guy in the bottom with a .58 and same shader got the freakin Gally. Then I had doubt, but the next day, SHIKABLAMIJACCKABLOOMISHABLAMAGE!!! Xûr-Jukebox-me-Gally-dancing-happiness-fiancé-ranting-brief grief-quickly forgetting ranting-Gally on my 60inch-happy again!!!... So, I earned my Gjallarhorn...;)...
