I mostly use my Gjallarhorn on bosses and elites. There are other great weapons for trash mobs like Thunderlord or Super Good Advice. And, that's just the heavies. My kill count with the favored rocket launcher is relatively low even though I've had it for months. I have far more kills with the Vex and Red Death.
