Hi everyone,
Today's an exciting day. Destiny Stats has been on the Windows Phone Store for exactly one year. Since then, I've updated the app sixteen times and many of those updates were based on feedback from you, the users. But today we're not just looking back. We're also looking forward.
As I shared a few weeks ago, Destiny Stats is evolving into a universal Windows 10 app. This is much more than a regular update though. It's a reimagining. This is a completely new app, designed for Windows 10 with Year Two in mind. It even has a new name.
I'm excited to finally announce Destiny Legend.
Like I mentioned earlier, Destiny Legend is designed for Windows 10, meaning it'll run on Windows 10 phones, tablets, PCs and possibly other Windows 10 devices (e.g. Xbox One) in the future. Destiny Legend will be completely free, with no ads or trials. Like Destiny Stats, there'll be options to donate within the app if you really like what I'm doing.
I've put together an Imgur album containing a few mockups of the design I hope to deliver. Please keep in mind that these are mockups, not running code. The actual design of the app may vary slightly. I'd love to hear your feedback.
Now, let's talk timeframes. To be honest, it's very difficult for me to commit to a hard timeframe for version 1.0. Based on my current velocity, I don't think it will be available before September 15, when Destiny: The Taken King launches. However, I'm planning to run a beta version of the app side-by-side with the 'release' branch. I'm fairly confident that the first beta build will be available before September 15. After that, I hope to release weekly updates of the app. This is fairly ambitious, and I may miss a few weeks, but I think that it's important that I get the feedback of users early and often.
The beta will initially be invite-only, with plans to open it up to others later on. I'll be sending out invites to certain users who have been particularly active with providing feedback. You probably know who you are ;)
I'll try to be more reliable with keeping you all in the loop regarding development and more frequent updates and a beta testing programme are the start of this. You can also follow me on Twitter where I hope to post screenshots, questions and polls, provided there's enough engagement.
That's all for today though. I look forward to hearing your feedback and hope that together, we can make Destiny Legend into a truly awesome Windows 10 companion app for Destiny.
Thanks,
Vivek
