I hope you are aware by now that you are not starting at 20 unless you are 20 at the tine TTK drops. If your 34 then you will be 34

That is technically correct. But if you're a level 34 you will starting ttk as a level 34. End of.

Yes, hence the gear. But you won't get your light replaced by 14 XP levels if that is what you think. Iv'e seen the IGN interview with DeeJ twice now. Light leveled gear will still determine how "hard you punch".
