My first Vault of Glass run we cheesed the Templar with the Warlock grenade trick.
My first Crota's end run we cheesed the 2nd bridge and pulled the ethernet cable on Crota.
It wasn't really by choice but just happened that way for me.
I think it would be fun going into the new Raid knowing anything about it and just see what happens.

Edit 3: Thank you everyone for sharing your stories. I'm amazed that most people didn't cheese it for the first time. Now let's break out the crackers and spread the cheese while we reminisce about year 1 and anticipate year 2.

No cheese for me. First VoG, we went in blind. No idea what to do, and it was a blast. This was the first week it came out, on Friday night. I was the dedicated relic holder, since everybody else was a bit anxious to do it, so I learned how to do it by mashing buttons. We didn't complete it for weeks, but I didn't care. It was fun. First CE was a few weeks into TDB, since I didn't have it until then. By that time, I didn't actually do the raid in its entirety until a month afterwards. The bridge was cheesed, unfortunately, since my fireteam couldn't find any people that didn't want to cheese it, and none of us were fully leveled. The first time that I actually completed the full raid (no jumping in on later checkpoints) was a legitimate run, no cheese at all.
