Agreed this is not new in MMOs but this is a hybrid shooter/MMO. Some MMOs also have a way to keep old weapon and armor skins while upgrading to new gear. We have no evidence of this in Destiny tho technically no one has said Year 1.gear is obsolete yet either. If the mechanics of MMOs are going to be used as an excuse to makes previous gear obsolete then they need to simultaneously include a way for customization to keep our characters looking the way we want. Forging our destiny and customizing our characters was one of the selling points when the game originally released.
