I'd ask you one question in order to help you clarify your feelings:
The fact exists that in the last year, you have encountered weapons or gear that got you excited. With that in mind - if Bungie was able to approach loot in a way that maintained, restored or increased your excitement, possibly in a way you have not yet considered, would that work for you?
If the answer is yes (or even a 'yes, but'), then its Bungie's ball to drop - and you'll know soon enough if they succeeded for you. If your answer is no, then I maintain that you would have never made it through an entire 10-year cycle, and Bungie shouldn't even try to keep you engaged. Being "the only guy who has (insert weapon here)" is not enough of a differentiator to keep anyone engaged for a decade.
