You are totally wrong. If you had ever raided for weeks on end hoping for that one dagger/sword/gear piece to drop in an actual MMO you would understand that the attachment to an MMO item is actually MUCH more intense than any shooter looter.
Also, even if we remove the MMO comparison entirely, there is no denying that the genre of destiny is RPG. FPS is a style, like Third person shooter, or sidescroller. These are NOT genres.
Being an RPG in genre means that it had to act like one. Look at any RPG with progression content. In EVERY case, as you move on, you will be replacing gear with better versions. Yes you COULD use the dagger you started with throughout the entire game if you want, but there is nothing more stopping you from using the Khavostov on Oryx... It will just be left behind in stats just like the fatebringer and all obsolete gear from every RPG that has vertical progression.

Edited by TeddyBundy: 8/6/2015 6:50:57 PMFPS is "First Person Shooter" and of course it's a genre. It's an action based First Person Game that focuses on shooting stuff. Destiny is also not really a RPG because the classes/subclasses are way too similar and you can't really "choose" your path or decisions. Everyone is the same, you can't be good or bad, you cannot play a certain role. If Destiny is a RPG, "Alien vs. Predator" is a RPG too because of it's three classes. It's also not a MMO because a MMO has way more players in one area than 16 in a social space or 3-6 in a fireteam. Destiny is a normal FPS with a few RPG and (M)MO elements, nothing more and nothing less. Even Bungie says it's NOT a MMORPG so it's really idiotic to compare it to games like WoW or Diablo. The only games that are comparable are games like Borderlands and Warframe...and those have wayyy more content.

Your first sentences proved my point, you had to use the word "action" which is in fact a genre. Portal is an FPS, which should tell you that it's a style and not a genre. Plus you mentioned lack of customization, but not all RPGs have customization. Think FF7 or God of War or Zelda, or Shadows of Mordor, where you are all EXACTLY the same character, but they all are "action RPGs"

Edited by TeddyBundy: 8/6/2015 7:17:34 PMSo you're saying every game is a RPG when you play a character...ok. That's not what determines a RPG but who am I to say. FF is a RPG because you play different Characters with different roles. Zelda is NOT a RPG, it's an Action Adventure just like Metroid but with a different point of view. Portal is NOT a FPS. It's a First Person Puzzlegame. Doom is a FPS, Halo is a FPS, Destiny is a FPS with crossover elements. Deus Ex is a FPSRPG for example.

FPS style you are referencing: Doom- linear campaign Halo- linear campaign CoD- linear campaign BF- linear campaign RPGs Skyrim- nonlinear Borderlands- nonlinear Final fantasy- nonlinear Mass effect- nonlinear Etc Destiny is not linear and thus does not fit into the categories with the other traditional "FPS". It has dungeons and raids which are not items found outside the RPG genre. It's pretty obviously just an RPG that happens to be from the FPS perspective. As I stated in my first comment, it's the style not the genre
-
No, Destiny is WAY more a FPS than a RPG or anything else. It's like Halo with single Missions besides the linear main story you can also play cooperatively. In the end you're just shooting stuff from First Person View without any thought of the role you are playing...because you literally have no role to play. Hell, eben the Masterchief is more a role you can identify yourself with than any nonamed guardian.

Weeks on end? Try 4 months for me trying to get the chromatically tempered sword.... almost got out-DKP'd for it too when it finally dropped... Also, correct :)

Edited by CorinthianRed: 8/6/2015 6:57:26 PMSeen any of the videos of early weapons, the previewed crucible gameplay? They all appear that way. Subject to change or not, they have been implying the hell out these changes not only through early release, but the house of wolves weapons themselves. While there is no proof that isn't subject to change, can you really tell me bungie isn't above doing something they've already done and even spoke about doing previously?
-
i'd be alright with your logic if we could say that the new weapons are "better" 3 round shotguns with handloaded and negative range, less than 30 round magazine weapons. machine guns that spend more time reloading than they do firing. I appreciate your logic, but you're missing a few important points here.
-
So tell me about TTK's weapons then. By the sounds of it, you've already played it fully, used all the weapons and know they are definitely worse than the year 1s!
