Totally my opinion and by no means am I good at Crucible or PvE, but for example, the Fatebringer is not really made for Crucible, it's designed around PvE.
Another example, the beloved Gjallarhorn (that still eludes me), it's almost a "must" for some things in PvE. BUTTTTT...Why would I use it in Crucible when I could easily get just as many kills with the HoC, Radegast's Fury, Tomorrow's Answer etc and save an exotic slot? It's more feasible to use something like Thorn, The Last Word or Mida because those are better in the Crucible.
Yeah, I can use any weapon for Crucible and it be equal but some just aren't designed for that aspect of the game. If I want to run a Raid or Strike, I will go to the Fatebringer, Secret Handshake, Swordbreaker, etc because they're designed around those activities.
All in all, I'm not arguing what they're doing is wrong, I would just like to have the option of keeping the things I enjoy most. Some ppl say it's boring to use the same weapons over and over but that's "my choice" if I want to. I work a month on month off so I literally play half as much as a lot of people. This gives me a break and makes me enjoy it more when I do get to play. Sorry so long, just trying to make a point and started rambling...
