You do make some fine points...and destiny isn't mmo, but it does have elements of mmo. They have a ten year plan for destiny...which means older gear will become irrelevant for higher levels. It ia by no means perfect...and they know that, hence the changes. Just wait till the taken king comes out and see what people are saying. Thia could be what keeps destiny going for the ten year plan...or show it probably won't make it to year three.
