All they need to do is increase the challenge and add a new tier for Prison of Elders to keep Gear Ascension relevant. Or use that as a means to update old gear into the new system, at which point they are adding even more content to TTK because now you suddenly are further increasing the number of weapons/armor in the game by including Year 1 stuff to all of that. It also serves the point of meeting that requirement for people to feel unique because they will obviously have things that newer players will not ever have access to.
Its that simple. Again I ask, how is this possibly a bad thing? Hell, if they ever added Player Trading, the value of the old gear would make it a very sought after commodity for new generations of players who never got the opportunity to play with any of it.

Edited by RuthlessXxR00: 8/5/2015 7:45:17 PMThat doesn't change the fact that I right now have around 25+ Etheric light and can easily add another 30+ before the Taken King comes out. I would easily make out all my characters gear and weapons the first minute it came out. That isn't progression. That's like asking why can't my Iron Sword be as strong as my Ebony Sword in Skyrim. That's not how progression works. This is how progression should work, and is most likely how the formula will and should continue down the line when it comes to Destiny. Vanilla<TDB<HoW. The increase shouldn't be that drastic when it comes to those dlcs as we only increased two levels per dlc. But now factor TTK into equation and it should look like this. Vanilla<TDB<HoW<<<TTK. Same thing should apply with the future dlc and should follow that formula so by the time Destiny 2 comes it out it should look like this depending on when it comes out. Vanilla<TDB<HoW<<<TTK<Small DLC1<Small DLC2<<<Destiny 2. That would be a simple and effective strategy with weapon and gear progression. We all got hundreds of hours with our favorite weapons. It's time to move along and spend hundreds of hours with these new weapons. Tho I do hope that they raise the Activity levels of VoG, Crota, and PoE later down the road. That way we can earn higher level weapons of our previous raid gear...

Or the other option. Use the Etheric Light to ascend old gear to the 365 tier from House of Wolves, and then use a new component to upgrade said ascended gear into this new system which puts them on equal footing with the new stuff. End result? More things to do and keep people playing, and more items added to the pool for people to use.

There are so many things wrong with that. That isn't a realistic option. It would also cause balancing of weapons to be a lot more difficult. In any game ever, your starting weapon will never be as strong as your ending weapon.

TTK comes out, everyone ascends everything to max level with saved up etheric light and then they go "thats it! Theres no content here" I agree with moving forward.
