They made the entire first year of this game completely pointless and a giant waste of time. You spent how many hours playing to get Legendary/Raid Weapons and Armor? You spent how many hours getting Etheric Light to ascend gear? You spent how many hours farming resource nodes in patrols? GRIND GRIND GRIND GRIND GRIND!!!
Destiny was nothing but a Grind. This is how they justified their lack of content. This is the excuse people who defended the game would use when people said the game was boring and lacked content. They needed a way to keep YOU and ME engaged with the game past the fail story missions, so what did they do? They made it a "Loot Driven Game" with RNG designed so that players WANT to spend hours and hours going back and redoing the SAME ACTIVITIES over and over and over and over again for the SOLE PURPOSE of acquiring enough Vanguard/Crucible Marks to get those Legendary Weapons and Armor from the vendors. For the SOLE PURPOSE of going through and beating the Vault of Glass and Crota's End to get that Raid Only stuff.
And why? Why did people do this? Because the vast majority believed what they were told. Believed that it wasn't a waste of time. The Dark Below was a precursor to this, and many quit the game as a result when they tried doing it then as well. It should be no surprise that people would be pissed off, because they already attempted this and everyone had the exact same reaction to it before. That's why they introduced Etheric Light in House of Wolves, and that is the main primary reason for many who decided to come back to Destiny.
But its just a huge slap to the face, though. Regardless. Because even after they give us Etheric Light, which became the center focus of HoW for the Prison of Elders? They now suddenly decide that they're going to take that away and no longer continue doing it going forward. Really? And they don't expect people to be pissed off or rather they are confused that there is such strong negativity towards all of it?
Basically, TTK is entirely a different game from what we got. The video above details this perfectly.
Year 1 just never happened. Bungie is just sweeping that shit under the rug. Which is fine, that's whatever. I agree, the first year of Destiny was a piece of garbage and should be burned and pissed on. But what about all of us morons who spent $100+ on it? What do WE get out of all that? They -blam!-ed up, they made all these mistakes and had all these problems with the game. So why do WE have to suffer for it? Why do WE get screwed over because of it? TTK would not have even been if not for us who paid into the franchise already, and yet nothing is really being done for us. We're being disrespected in the most assholish way possible by Bungie/Activision.
That Year 1 Triumphs thing isn't worth shit. An Emblem? Don't care. A black Shader and Sparrow? What good are those? Those are cosmetic items that generally ALWAYS get replaced by something else. Prime example, I have the God of War shader which I love, why would I replace that? For some vain attempt to try and garner respect from total strangers new to the game? No, that's silly.
I want continued ascension. This shouldn't even be up for debate. You put Etheric Light in and people were still grinding and getting the new weapons and armor for both Dark Below and House of Wolves DESPITE having the ability to further upgrade their old shit. SO QUITE CLEARLY PEOPLE WILL STILL USE NEW WEAPONS AND ARMOR EVEN WITH BEING ABLE TO CONTINUE ASCENDING THEIR OLD SHIT.
We ALSO see PROOF that you can in fact add to the replay value of activities by using Gear Ascension as a mechanic for such. People WILL spend hours taking on very difficult challenges to be able to do so. There is nothing at all wrong with this and it obviously gives people more shit to do in the game. How is that a BAD thing?
You can be excited for TTK all you want. The problem here is Bungie's decisions regarding Year 1 content and how they are basically eliminating any sense of true progression by not respecting the amount of time and effort invested in the game.
Fact is, YES, this DOES actually matter and YES, this IS a big deal to MANY players who WILL be quitting the game because of this and only further destroy the game's reputation along with that of Bungie who clearly don't give two shits about player feedback like they claim that they do.
You all remember this interview? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3DLTPQwB10
Fast forward to 4:27 where DeeJ talks about increasing Vault space because they acknowledge players want to be collectors and hold onto their stuff. That you can bring the Guardian you've created with you into Destiny 2 and going forward.
Hate to tell you this, Bungie, BUT THAT INCLUDES OUR GEAR AS WELL!
God -blam!-ing DAMMIT MAN! WHY DO YOU MAKE IT SO HARD FOR PEOPLE TO ENJOY THIS GAME!? SERIOUSLY! YOU ARE YOUR GREATEST OBSTACLE FOR DESTINY! You take one step forward and then two steps back. And it wasn't even YOU who announced this, instead we gotta find out from Game Informer? What the -blam!- is that all about?
You ask us for our feedback, we give it to you and then what happens? We get Weekly Updates where YOU tell US how WE feel about things. You guys are putting out a shit ton of weapons. Good for you, here's a cookie. People are going to obviously go out and get that shit REGARDLESS of still being able to continue ascending all their old shit. The POINT is that it NEEDS TO BE A CHOICE THAT PLAYERS MAKE ON THEIR OWN NOT SOMETHING THAT IS DECIDED FOR THEM!
Period.
EDIT: As anyone can see looking through these comments, its a very divided subject. However, as I have pointed out to others? Continued Gear Ascension does not, in any way, shape or form hinder TTK or prevent players from getting and using the new stuff. Players will do so either way regardless. And when I ask people "would it really bother you if Year 1 weapons and armor could still ascend?" most generally don't respond to that or actually answer with "no, it wouldn't bother them" and of course it wouldn't. It wouldn't bother ANYONE because we ALREADY WENT THROUGH IT WITH HOUSE OF WOLVES. Etheric Light was done, its real, it happened. It didn't bother anyone, it didn't hurt the game in the least and a vast majority of players reacted quite positively to it.
It won't hurt TTK. The only way it WILL hurt TTK is if you don't include it. Because people WILL leave. People WILL stop playing. You think that is silly? Screw you, that is YOUR opinion and obviously not how everyone else thinks. And THAT is the problem here, other people being arrogant and self-centered enough to think that they have a right to dictate how others should feel or think about something. That is WRONG, no matter how you look at it.
YOU MUST RESPECT HOW OTHERS FEEL. There are many who have legitimate reasons for wanting to keep ascending their old stuff. It is THEIR RIGHT to feel that way. Deal with it.
EDIT #2: For those asking, yes I have seen the IGN Interview with DeeJ. No, my opinion has not changed.
It is insulting that Bungie's response to us about this is that "those weapons will always have a place for use in VOG" which is total bullshit. No one is going to keep and use the Fatebringer in Vault of Glass when there are other weapons that will have a higher damage value. More damage will always automatically mean making less stronger weapons obsolete by comparison.
Old Legendary Weapons and Armor need to be able to continue ascending. That is how many of us feel, and that is not going to change. End of story.

So yeah... I am heartbroken by this, I have not put in the time that most have on this game, but what I have done is had quality time with my son and friends. This news has come as quite a shock... In recent weeks we have gone back to try and get vault weapons, and I finally had word of Croata drop... I am sad to say that at this point all efforts are pointless, as in 1 month any further pursuit of vault weapons is now pointless. Other than the vex and a crux I have no other value to play these raids... I can't believe this is how the year one players are being appreciated. I wanted one of each from every raid and prison weapons but now see there is no reason to even try as they will be worthless in a little over a month. All I can say is I am disappointed... I stopped trying vault when the weapons (other than fatebringer)became obsolete the first time. I was reinvigorated with hope when ether uv light was introduced! Now I am saddened that my effort were for nought!

This guy needs to be paid snd on staff at a game company. Y? Because hes spot on.

You could say same about iPhone. Why buy the 5 if you can get the 5S. I don't know about you, but sometimes I need a phone right here right now. I got Destiny because I was thirsty. It quenched, but I don't expect the bottle to still be full. I know soon enough that I will need a refill. It's like saying if your water is being replaced, why drink it in the first place? That water came with me all the way to New Mexico, why just throw it away? You don't cry when your bananas expire, do you? No, not me at least. I paid for the bananas and the dude said they were ripe two days ago. I don't trust him, but I still need my weekly potassium, don't I? DLC is like a side of apples with your bananas. You chose what you wanted to buy, and since it's organic, there turns out to be a worm. Oh well, I knew the risks, didn't I? It's not like the salesman was clairvoyant and overpriced the apple. He's just reinforcing the price tag the company in charge of the store chose. My point is, the importance has been the content lasting now, not later. You don't watch a movie for tomorrow's amusement. You do it for today's sake. We all knew what we were possibly getting into and that it could be too good to be true.

Yes I agree with u, I love the dark below vanguard armor, specifically the warlock, I ascended all of that armor i have and still use it, because I LIKE IT, yes its not new but oh well but I use the new Loner.Rebel and am farming away Vanguard Dragon to get more of them but I want to be able to bring this amazing weapon forward through destiny but that doesnt mean i wont change on to something new, or go back on something old. And people why do you not want to ascend anymore? Do you realize you're favorite exotics, thorn, last word, you're precious G-horn, all of those will be rendered obsolete without ascension. Point made
-
I have probably about 1000 hours in this game. It took me 95 VoGs to get fatebringer. I'm not playing to get the best guns. I'm playing to have fun. And honestly 10 years with a fatebringer, black hammer, or found verdict would get real old. This games is turning into a regular RPG game which is a good thing. It's nice to have a change of pace.
-
Honestly, I think it's because bungie is trying to evolve destiny. I really believe they're trying to make it into a better game and the one we all wanted on day 1. To do that, however, there has to be a big revamp. They made VoG weapons the top-tier, but they want to change the characteristics of all weapons from ttk on, they have to make all the best weapons that came before obsolete because they won't fit into the archetypes they're trying to evolve them into. In my opinion, it kind of sucks, it's hard to swallow, and it does seem somewhat unappreciative of the first year. I do respect what they're doing though, I can tell they're really trying to make this game the greatest and I can make a sacrifice for that. To each their own, I respect your post/opinion and agree with much of it. Wait until ttk releases and ask yourself, "if destiny were released in the condition post-ttk, would I give up everything to experience it this way from the start?" If it's a legitimately better experience, I see no harm.
-
Bump!
-
“As an alternative to using or sharding your new high-powered Legendary weapons and armor, you can also improve an item you like by sacrificing another piece from the same gear slot.” ..,soo.,Does this mean there is kind of an ascension of sorts. The language used is kinda vague. Does it bring it up to TTK damage values and other stats?
-
I just want to be able to use my best gear until r-n-gesus blesses me with something better that can take over. I wouldn't feel so robbed of the hours ive put in to get certain weapons if thats the case. But i guess i want it to be my choice if i want to use new vs old weapons. I dont want it forced on me. In particularly are my elemental primarys which i consider more valuable then majority of my exotics

Edited by Synge_X: 8/6/2015 7:51:29 PMIt's not unreasonable to ask that the forums not be filled with complaints that were constantly posted about from the first month of release. If you're upset enough to write weekly essays on how much this game has screwed you over, you must expect to be told that it may be the best thing for you to move on. Do you really expect that they are going to reverse engineer months of programming? It is a ritual that the community jumps on any announcement by Bungie. As a result, there is barely ever relevant feedback on these forums and I find that if anybody posts anything about weapon or class balance, it is the same people that constantly complain about the game, that will tell you that you are the type of person who is ruining the game(via nerfing etc). we are moving into year two, it's obvious that guys like you don't like the direction of Bungie is taking, so why would you continue(much less invest more money)? With the expansions, the excuse was "I bought the game and season passes, and I'm demanding that Bungie makes up for my dissatisfaction", or "I'm playing it out and getting my money's while letting my voice be heard". Now, there is no excuse to drop another cent into the game. The cat is out of the bag about legacy weapons not leveling and the final excuse that "now I'm playing because, despite constantly railing on the game, I've sunk hours into it and want to retain that progress". There is no reason to stick around man. None at all. Move on. Find a game you enjoy and if you are the type of person who likes drama and is a part of the new generation of gamer that wants to politicize everything involved with it, at least move to a game where you "feel" your voice is heard. I mean is this completely unreasonable? You claim that you are a part of the majority, and you are most certainly a part of the majority on these forums. However, based on the 130 people on my friends list, not a one of them share your thinking concerning this game. Sure, I discuss with other players all the time about how the game can improve, or ideas on how to make that a reality, but it never quite echoes the pervasive, overarching attitude that "it's Bungie's mission to screw the player". If I, or any of the intelligent people I play with regularly felt that way, we would simply not play. In fact, that happened in reality with Final Fantasy 14(I have never returned to that game or its Forums). Have you considered that Destiny is not designed for you? Have you considered(and there is considerable evidence to back this up) that Bungie is basing changes, less on the emotional reactions of players, and more on what players are actually doing based on metrics in combination with player feedback? With that said, or shall I say, with that theory proposed, your best course of action, and the best way to have your voice heard, may be to cease support for the game. On the idea that it is your kind that hold the game up, and your leaving being detrimental to the survival of the game(by way of players leaving in a mass of frustration). I'm more than willing to make that sacrifice. Under that logic, leaving would be the perfect tool for retribution against Bungie and their fanboys. Personally, I would rather the game die out, than have it constantly compromised by people who don't know what they want, expect to much to soon, or don't like anything at all.

-
Why can't you just enjoy the game without always wanting to change it it's not your game it's bungies be happy we get to play it
-
Did you have fun? If so, was it really a waste of time? If not, why did you still play?
-
I've had more time to think on this subject - not allowing current legendaries to be ascended in The Taken King. Why is it that weapons like Fatebringer are so coveted to the Destiny playerbase? It's because when Bungie releases a new expansion we get a ton of new weapons, but none of them are better or even as good as the ones we already have access to. This is why players are so upset to lose their old weapons, not because we fail to see how MMO's or RPG's work - it's because we've seen time and time again that new weapons won't be worth our time. Since the launch of Destiny there have only been 2 weapons created that are on par with those from Vault of Glass or Iron Banner that were available day 1: Black Hammer (which is totally getting nerfed to junk in TTK) and The Scholar (Adept) which can only be acquired from the Lighthouse chest in Trials of Osiris. At the time I got my first Black Hammer I hadn't yet gotten an Efrideet's Spear from Iron Banner and was using Ice Breaker - I was very happy to replace my Ice Breaker with Black Hammer. When I got my Efrideet's Spears I reforged them to perfection and replaced my Black Hammers. When I got my first Arc damage The Scholar (Adept) I was happy as hell to dismantle my Fang of Ir Yut and I've even stopped using Fatebringer. We're all for weapon progression, we just aren't seeing that in Destiny. No Hand Cannon has ever come close to the perks of Fatebringer except Timur's Lash reforged with Outlaw, Field Scout, and Crowd Control, but that doesn't have elemental damage so even that isn't a replacement for it and Timur's Lash is an Iron Banner weapon that has been around since day 1. The problem isn't that we are against change or using new weapons, it is that we are against being forced to use new weapons that are worse than the ones we already have. This has absolutely been the case in The Dark Below and House of Wolves (but at least they did one thing right in House of Wolves and allowed us to ascend the previous weapons which were better than the new ones). If they don't really overhaul the way they create new weapons right away in The Taken King it won't be worth playing until the end of year 2 when they'll probably allow ascending legendaries again.
-
They should still allow ascending. It would keep PoE relevant (boring as it is). Want to ascend Fatebringer to year 2 levels, ok do it, dont want to? Then dont. We should have choices.
-
You don't speak for everybody. I have no issue with losing my legendaries, news flash, this isn't a first. In fact, it's the right thing to do.
-
Edited by RichardPictures3: 8/6/2015 10:06:42 PMThe only reason people used old weapons is because the PoE guns were total shit. Had they been better we would have used them. I hope they don't make the same retarded mistake in TTK. I'm a little too paranoid about getting a rocket launcher that has a "thrall burn" perk on it....
-
A game can;t change economy on every release and make newly introduced weapons obsolete this fast. HOW was introduced 4 months ago and all the material obtained from How will be obsolete this fast including hard earned Trials gears. This is unacceptable ,...
-
It's actually pretty par for the course for mmos.
-
bump good Sir!
-
Omg I can't wait to get new weapons and move on further You all bitch and moan and complain too much The weapons are great and were great it's time for a change
-
Personally I have been conditioned by two and a half years of WoW to move on from my old gear. I remember having a full set of legendary gear in the Lich King only to replace it with greens as soon as Cataclysm came out and no it didn't bother me. However, it didn't bother me because the new gear was BETTER and represented a significant advancement in my characters strength. The same can be said for some of the weapons I have in destiny. I went from The Chance, to The Fulcrum to Timur's Lash on my hunter because my ganeplay, weapon style and perk preference evolved and were answered which allowed me to progress as a player and as a guardian. What will make or break TTK for me is if I get the same feeling of making progress by replacing armour and weapons that I have had in the past. I know I will mourn the passing of my Zombie Apocalypse, LDR, Timur's, Gheleon's and my pile of other shotguns, snipers and rocket launchers that I love. However if I lose them in favour of guns that have the same stats or even better, than I think TTK will be a success.
-
Obviously, destiny was your first mmorpg. This is how it works they will give you end content. Then the next update makes it to where that content is obsolete I'm surprised they let up max out vault gear that's charity in this type of gaming. Go play world of Warcraft for 5000+ hours only to have them change everything. You have no idea what grinding is or raiding. This game is a piece of cake and is one of the easiest games to get max level and top tier gear in. They have to change it to keep a strong player base. Their are far more "casual" players then so called "hardcore" or "core" Your grind was for nothing but enjoyment of the games play style and mechanics. Sorry to burst your bubble but all mmos are this way
-
I am going to be sad to be able to not see my Fatebringer etc carry on and be the beast they are in the Taken King missions quests and the New Epic raid i'll still keep hold of them because whenever i want to run a Crota/VOG again i'll be using my year one gear in them seeing as they'll still be great in those raids and other missions from year one So therefore i am happy to see what amazing guns Bungie have lined up for us in TTK and will at least try them out to judge if its a crap decision to leave year 1 weapons behind however i think we all should at least test the new weapons before making a judge on Bungie's decision on Year 1 weapons
