DLC: DownLoadable Content.
Expansion = More Content, that you can download.
So: DLC = Expansion

Expansions in mmo games like destiny typically cost more because of the wealth of content than the typical $10-$15 for some five small maps or 1-2 added hours of a campaign. I wish the expansions actually had a wealth of content but whatever I guess. Looking at you TDB and HoW.
