MMO's have raids, instancing, gear leveling, mat grinding, etc. But so do RPG's.
Those things have become so common place in gaming today that they can no longer be attributed to MMO's. At least not solely attributed to them.
Even Bungie refers to their game as a shared or open world shooter.
