I can see where you're coming from, you've put countless hours into this game, chasing that one weapon that you wanted/needed, that last piece of vault armour, that BlackHammer, (Would mention a PoE weapon here but I didn't chase any of them) Or even spending hours trying to go flawless, just to get that one adept weapon you needed.
These are the weapons you built your character with, you've used them for a good portion of Year 1. But that's exactly what they are, Year 1 weapons. House of Wolves introduced ascension, but if you ask me, it wasn't put in for the benefit of the game, it was introduced because people wanted it.
Back in vanilla Destiny you had strikes and the Vault, the grind was brutal but that made it all the more better when you finally got that last armour piece, or that weapon you wanted all that time, whether it was a Found Verdict, a Shadow Price, A SUROS or the Vex Mythoclast.
The Dark Below removed most of the grind, but it was still there. But whereas the Vault could take weeks to get one piece of armour/weapon, with Crota, most people had what they needed in two weeks. But certain weapons were still there to grind for, whether they were Vanilla or new, exotic or legendary.
House of Wolves introduced ascension, which for me at least, removed the entire excitement out of Destiny after a few days.
PoE was good on paper, but quickly became nothing more than a way for Etheric light, not the armour pieces or the weapons, just Etheric light.
Trials was a shitfest, nothing but two maybe three weapons at a push, whoever got the lucky shot off first would gain the lead, most of my Trials matches have been poking my head out of cover for two or three seconds, dodging Thorn all the way. Or listening intently into my headset listening to see if I can't hear where they are only to hear two rounds be fired off into a wall. The few matches that have been utter chaos were my favourite and I distinctly remember going 8-0 and finding a team that used nothing but No Land Beyond, that match was utterly terrifying because they were actually winning down to the final match where we managed to take it back. Where were these terrifying or exiting moments in PoE aside from day 1 or your first Skolas run?
Ascension, was a double edged sword. It let us bring back all our favourites to their highest value again, plus it was nice seeing a few Vanilla weapons at 365. But it took the excitement out of Destiny, why bother searching for new weapons or armour pieces, when everything you're going to get is worse then everything you already have.
Personally I think Destiny needs a hard stop, keep the exotics, ditch the rest, move on with the game. Because why keep the same Year 1/2 etc. weapons throughout the whole of a ten year plan? It makes no sense to me.
I also realise that this is Bungies fault for some part, the weapons they introduced were below average for what you had to go through to get them, but if we could just maybe hold our tongues, wait and see what will actually happen in The Taken King, because while you've had to abandon everything you've had, maybe this time, the things we can find will actually be worth it.

Good response. I agree with what you have written and I'm feeling a little less indignant having read it. What I want from Bungie, more than anything else, is a warning of what comes next. I would be fine with all year 1 legendaries becoming obsolete, but it would have been good to know a few weeks earlier. I might have held off some of that Iron Banana grind if they had! I definitely expect weapons not to translate well from Destiny 1 to Destiny 2, but after PoE, my expectation had been set and Bungie definitely did nothing to correct that - until information gets given exclusively to a news site, and the corrections are coming in from Cosmo on some (but not all) threads in the forums. Opening up a little more would reduce my frustration, and allow me to formulate my tactics around how to maximise my gear.

I agree they should have told us a few things that will effect us with The Taken King, but I also like that they're keeping most things under wraps, that way it's more of a surprise and adds to the excitement for a day one play.

Well said. I agree regarding ascension (hadn't put it into words myself). I liked seeing my gear retain relevance but it made everything very formulaic. Since HoW dropped, I've basically used just 3 weapons in PvE content: Fatebringer, Found Verdict, Gjallarhorn. Sure, I occasionally needed to match a burn, but otherwise, there was no reason to deviate. I was getting very, very bored.

Exactly, while it was nice to see everyone running around in different armour setups, weapons were vastly the same, all we can hope for in The Taken King, is that Hakke, SUROS and Omolon foundries differ majorly and each foundry has weapons for different roles, that way, we might have different weapons across the board for different roles, not one load out to rule them all.

Perfect response. Bump.

Dude, trials is awesome. Apart from VOG it's the best thing in the game. As soon as the weapon patch comes then the crucible will be more balanced and maybe you will enjoy it more. But I agree on everything else.

Don't get me wrong, I've thoroughly enjoyed Trials, but that little rant of mine was Trials as a whole, I've had matches that make me want to put my fist through my TV, but I've also had matches where, even if I lost, I was enjoying myself, it's just as a whole Trials is three primaries, two secondary's and one type of heavy. It's just what Crucible has become that makes Trials what it is.

This is a brilliant response and a great read. Thanks. It's opened my mind a bit and I hope to give you a longer reply later.
