What I don't get about people who are angry with no ascension.
So if you are at all active on this forum, by now you must have heard the hate from people because there will be no ascending of year one weapons after ttk comes out. My question is why are people mad at this change? You get to use all new weapons. Wouldn't that make the game more exciting? People complain the game is stale, yet they want to use the exact same weapons they have been since release!
For my second point I will address that these weapons will not be rendered useless. Remember that weapons in standard crucible are not affected by attack level, and will still hold relevance. Also, you can still use old weapons in pve. They may not be as effective, but they will still do damage.
And now for my last point. Does anyone remember the when the dark below was announced with weapons that would be better than vanilla gear? There was no ascendance, and there was no one who complained. In fact, the game worked just fine even with the increased values on attack of new weapons.
To sum his all up, people should not be getting mad about not being able to ascend weapons in ttk. Think of it as a new opportunity to make the game fresh. The only reason people are complaining is because they now know they have the option to ascend, and honestly, they should just quit complaining and play the game.

I would love new guns. But this argument wouldn't be happening if the guns where better. I personally don't care, if I keep playing I'll keep some for collecting purposes.

3 RepliesNice post, I completely agree with you. I'm excited for the Taken King. I'm ready for new weapons that I'll actually want and use. I'll still use my Fatebringer, VoC, and other raid weapons. I don't care that they'll probably do about 10% less damage than the new max attack level. I'm assuming the new attack level will be 400, but it could be higher since we know the new level cap will be at least 40. The Fatebringer will still be great for arc burn which boosts damage by 300%. It will still do roughly 2.75x more damage than a new non arc weapon with 400 attack in that situation. People had no trouble using weapons with 300 attack when The Dark Below was released. Allowing us to ascend our weapons with etheric light was a double edged sword. They knew they didn't have worthy replacements for our weapons in the HoW so etheric light was kind of a band-aid solution. The problem is now people will expect to be able to do this again. I'm pretty sure etheric light wasn't part of their original plan. It feels like they just threw that together to appease us until The Taken King is released. My takeaway from year one and what people need to realize is the last year has just been a trial run. Destiny is supposed to last for 10 years. There will be some growing pains, but I think 2.0 will be great. Bungie has always been great at capturing and analyzing gameplay data. They now have nearly 11 months of data to work with. The weapon rebalancing in 2.0 was developed using this data. Year two is their chance to learn from what worked and what didn't. Let's all forget about year one and move forward. I'm very optimistic about year two. We need to stop holding onto the past. A change could do us all some good.

1 ReplyThe point is that it seems that brand new players will be on the same level as vets once they get to lvl 20 - their weapon and armor loadout options will be year 2 items. They won't have to run any raids or anything - vendor gear will all have higher attack and defence values than the stuff vets grinded for.

The main reason people are pissed is because VoG weapons were over tuned and are too powerful, so any upgrades we would get would be very minimal. Players aren't looking for small upgrades, they want to feel like they are getting much more powerful. If people refuse to use newer weapons bungie is literally forced to either a) Nerf the guns(which people seem to hate) or b) buff the newer guns and prevent the old ones from upgrading. I'm much happier with option b simply because its something fresh and new

Going back to E3 2014 Deej stated that you could play the game how you want, also that every gun, every piece of armour should tell a unique story about how that guardian got it. How can you be unique if everyone is being forced to look the same and use the same weapons? I am not against natural progression but, there will be no individuality in the game anymore. It's all about being given the choice of what to use, and what to wear not having forced on us.

Nobody complained about dark below having the only relevant gear? No, that was the biggest crapstorm in destiny history which directly led to etheric light. But aside from that give us weapon we WANT to use instead of weapons we are FORCED to use then there is no problem.

It's not lack of ascending for me it's the lack of good or better weapons/armor to replace them. If armor and weapons were at least on par people might naturally quit using the old gear. The new gear has been awful. To some might feel forced. I don't mind getting rid of my old gear and look forward to new gear but really only if it is at least close to being on par with old stuff.

Could you imagine if when HoW dropped you could only use the garbage weapons that were provided because everything else would be too weak? Heartbreaking. The big problem here is raid gear. With all of it raid specific perks I better have at least somewhere to put it so if I do want to do a VoG run I can at least use the goddamned weapons for that.

1 ReplyI'm more than happy to see what is involved with building your own weapon in TTK. Between the different skill trees, perk types, quests and lord knows what else they haven't shown us yet, I think it will be plenty fun to keep me occupied.

Bungie is nerfing our good guns to give and making them non ascendable because the new ones will be crap. Instead of giving us crap, why can't we get more good weapons? What's preventing bungie from doing that? Instead what we have is more wasted time, and more guns that are irrelevant
