I see your views, however I respectfully disagree.
The very nature of the game relies on you getting gear, spending time and money in game.
If you're comfortable with your old gear, and it is just as effective if not more than the new armor, then what incentive do you have to get the new weapons/armor other than for collecting purposes?
People don't like change, and don't get me wrong, I'd love to keep my Fatebringer and blow up hive left, right, front and center all day.
However, at the end of the day, from a business and development perspective, I do not think making our old legendaries ascendable would be a wise choice for the game.
Exotics? That's a little different IMO. I would like to see them incorporate the ascending of exotics into the actual story of the new xpack. Make it as difficult as it was to obtain thorn, or the other exotic bounties.
This will help keep the content meaningful and rewarding for those particular weapons.
OR make it so that they are reforged into a continuing story line that allows you to ascend it into a new form, with entirely different perks sets or what have you.
