Based on information so far from gameinformer.com, this is what's known about the hugely anticipated upcoming DLC, The Taken King. The above link will take you to part two as this thread has reached it's character limit now.
Year One Weapons and Armour
it looks like these will be left behind as you find new gear to replace it. Some of your gear will be useful apparently for the first couple of hours of TTK until you find gear with higher attack and defense values and different perks. There will probably be an option to upgrade gear to year 2 stats, much like you can with year 1 gear using etheric light. But you'll probably have to hold onto that gear until the the 5th DLC due out in 2016 (2nd DLC after TTK).
Leveling System now from 1 to 40 with no light levels
Leveling will now all be earned by earning experience and not through the use of armour's light level stats. It's a good idea and with the time it took a lot of players just to hit level 30 was painful and turned a lot of gamers off!
Goodbye Dinklebot Hello Northghost
Nolan North is the new voice of your trusty ghost, including all the previous story too, completely removing the Peter Dinkelage dialogue completely. For those that have new heard of Nolan North should take a quick look at his list of previous work. It might mean many of us will have to replay the story from the beginning again to see what changes they've made and included into the story.
Duplicate Drops will be a rare occurance
Bungie will be addressing the issue of getting the same gear over and over again, by changing the random generated gear to reflect what you already are using. I just hope they have added a lot more gear to collect rather than see the same two of every weapon type always popping up.
Weapons, armor, class items, and even your Ghost shell all offer perk customization as well as increased power and light for your hero.
All of the original mission have been reorganised, contextualised, and placed within a larger quest framework. Even older subclasses…have dedicated quest lines that explain their use and place within the world.
Vanguard vendors have quests unlocked at certain points of progression.
The following is a copy and paste from the reddit thread on the TTK which can be viewed via the link at the bottom of this post.
Summary of the Game Informer news (Credit -/u/Mawnix):
- Level cap raised to 40
- Cryptarch rewards from engrams are now more in line with the type of Engram you got
- The second half of the Taken King apparently starts once you reach the Endgame (Questlines throughout the Destiny Universe!)
- Your Ghost can now scan objects to offer more insight into the world's lore (IE, scan a Cabal soldier, gives you info on their Military Regiment)
- You can now turn in Bounties without returning to the Bountyboard
Intelligence, Discipline, and Strength now have numerical "tiers" that decide their influence on your character
- A new progress system where you sacrifice an existing piece of gear that belongs to the same slot
- The Tower and its NPCs have been retooled to offer quests/story/insight into the world as you level up your character from 1-40
- Entire base game/expansions re-tooled for narrative and access purposes to make much more sense (Example: after meeting the Queen for the first time, the Reef is open to you)
- Subclasses, old and new, have their own questlines
- GUNSMITH NOW HAS A REP AND THE HIGHER YOUR REP, THE MORE "PROTOTYPE WEAPONS" HE OFFERS FOR YOU TO "TEST IN THE FIELD" FOR REP.
- Reaching a certain Rep with Banshee allows you access to "Armsday", a weekly purchase that allows you to ORDER LEGENDARY GUNS with GLIMMER.
- Crucible and Vanguard Marks are gone! (I imagine they will be converted to legendary marks) ALL HAIL THE UNIVERSAL "LEGENDARY MARKS" FOR LEGENDARY VENDOR PURCHASES!
- Class specific materials needed for upgrading are gone! Hadronic Essences, Armor Plating, etc. have been replaced by "Armor Materials", making it easier to utilize materials on one character towards another to progress them.
- NO LONGER FORCED TO WEAR A CLASS ITEM WHEN LEVELLING UP NEW MONARCHY, DEAD ORBIT, OR FWC (you pledge to each faction!)
- You can turn in materials to these above factions for a Rep Gain (like the Speaker with Glimmer)
- NEW SYSTEM THAT RECORDS ALL SHADERS AND, ONCE YOU'VE GAINED IT, YOU'RE ABLE TO CHOOSE FROM THEM ANYTIME YOU VISIT THE SYSTEM (also shows you the Shaders you don't have AND HOW TO OBTAIN THEM!)
- Same above system with Emblems!
- New Exotics are tied into Questlines! (which is what they originally were supposed to be, not from silly exotic bounties)
- RAIL GUN FUSION RIFLE HEAVY WEAPON EXOTIC.
- Eight new Crucible Maps
- Weekly Crucible and Trials bounties! Complete all 5 of the Weeklies for the week, and you gain access to a 6th that has a chance to reward you either a Legendary or Exotic!
- ENDGAME THAT EXPLORES PREVIOUS ENDGAME (Vault of Glass) AND FURTHERS THE STORY EVEN AFTER FINISHING THE STORY MISSIONS
- Bosses/mechanics that aren't purely Bullet Sponge-y!
- Crucible has a "mercy rule" (Thank you /u/optimal_ac)
New Light Leveling System
It looks like light on your armour will still play a part at determining your guardians strength. But won't factor into maxing your guardians base level out, it will play a different role as it does now. Keep an eye out for extra info from any of the live videos that bungie post. As far as is known, there will be certain events locked until you reach a certain amount of light from your gear.
Ghost gets new skins and perks
As well as a different voice, your Ghost will now be customisable! And it's not just about choosing which colour preference you like, the skins will each have their own 'light level' to add to your armour, as well as stat perk increasements for intellect, strength or discipline! Finding that colour you like with the max attributes might prove grinding! Expect faction colour skins? On top of the stat perks some new shells have special abilities, like helping to locate certain material nodes or increased Glimmer for killing certain enemy races.
New Tower Vendors
Of what I've read, Tess has left and is replaced by a kiosk where you can access all the special items and Emblems you've acquired from special orders and meeting certain requirements.
Banshee is the name of a new weapons vendor, selling experimental weapons and also provides an exotic quest to obtain a new exotic fusion rifle with bouncing rounds! They also have their own faction rank which you can get rep for by completing weapon specific bounties that Banshee supplies on a daily basis, with a weapon that Banshee supplies you. Once you hit a certain Rep you can order special legendary Armsday Weapons, which take several days to arrive before you can pick them up.
A new Kiosk is available to access every emblem and shader in the game. From here you can equip the ones you have already unlocked and found, or look at how you can aquire the ones you're missing. This will eliminate the need to horde these items as you can aquire them whenever you want to.
Vanguard Quartermaster will give the option to trade in armour materials specific to your character (sapphire wire, plasteel Plating and hadronic essence) for the new streamlined multiuniversal armour materials which will be the main material for upgrading armour across all classes.
Xur will have a new item called the Three of Coins, this is a buff you buy so that there is an increased chance of an exotic dropping on your next boss fight.
The Dreadnaught Area
- You can't use your sparrow in the Dreadnaught, but as it's a compact area it shouldn't matter to us.
- There is an exotic weapon that has been broken into 50 pieces for us to go and collect amongst the alcoves and past disappearing platforms (think VoG) which should prove fun for patrolling.
- The Taken War is a structure that is open to us once the initial story mission is completed, so is an Endgame piece to add replayability. Hopefully more info about this comes out soon.
- Certain areas (both here and in the known destiny universe) open up only once you hit level 40.
- Every enemy race will be encountered on the vast ship in confrontations with each other and with the new Taken army!
Weapons Generate Light!
Weapons generate light stats as well as armour (and your Ghost and possibly class items), the light level is now used as a guide to represent the overall strength of your guardian. All activities will now have a guide to what light level (or amount of light) you'll need to easily tackle the activity without running into a wall of difficulty. How this will work with players that have one piece with a really high light level, (or really low) will be seen.

I must say, I was very skeptical of The Taken King at first, but after "Taken" in all this new info, I'm pretty much set in getting it and continuing the prowl with my Day 1 Hunter. Can't wait!

Best thread do far, keep it at the top bump.

Edited by Wads, The Lost Nublet: 8/5/2015 6:40:38 PMIt sounds like Bungie is finally making the Destiny I heard so much about that they wanted to begin with. The new leveling system Will benefit both hardcore And casual players alike. The bounty system Will be more fun I believe, and the complete remake of the story line makes me wanna delete a character and re run it once it releases lol. But, with an update and redesign this big, I foresee a lot of problems day 1,and even month 1, no matter how much they prepare. All in all, Great plan bungie, but I'm tentative to hope for a flawless release.

What will happen to our current marks? I have 200 of each on my hunter, will they just become 400 legendary marks?

Updated again with info from reddit's mega thread.

Edited by PyroMan15: 8/5/2015 12:29:21 AMWell shit. I was hearing all this stuff of year one players are -blam!-ed. But after reading this, I kind of think other wise. It kind of seems like they are making the game they had wanted to in the first places!
This is the worst possible way to shove year two gear down our throats. I didn't pre-order The Taken King for a reason.
Leveling System now from 1 to 40 with no light levels
Remember last fall when we all complained about the terrible leveling system? This fix was a long time coming.
Goodbye Dinklebot Hello Northghost
Nice name. It'll weird that Bungie is scrubbing all of Dinklage's lines.

The "5nd" Dlc?
-
So if there's no more Dinklebot what do we call the Nolan North ghost? I'm thinking Nobot, anyone else got any ideas?
-
Finally something about the RNG system is done. Duplicate shit is more or less history. And the light system was a bit absurd. Year 2 is shaping up to be nice. Gonna buy the overpriced DLC. :)

Sounds very exciting!
