So according to the latest news, you will not be able to upgrade legendary year one weapons/armor. All those dragon strikes for Hopscotch and guess what... there will be stronger ones out. Those fancy adept weapons from trials... pfft sit down, we got bigger and better ones coming. Oh wait, the mighty Fatebringer will be no more. Gotta love the direction this game is heading in. 10 years people this is the plan. Mean while, $1000 later, regrind again.
In case you people still want to call it a MMO *cough From Bungie-
Destiny is a first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie and published by Activision. Released on September 9, 2014, Destiny marked Bungie's first new franchise since the Halo series. Set in a "mythic science fiction"
I love it! The flames are rising in the forums now. So many similar topics all over the place. I might change my name to Firestarter. Keep up the good work. This stuff is gold, especially when bored at work. I need more entertainment. Not sure how long this topic will stay alive before it's nuked like a previous topic I created. I also appreciate the defenders justifying their hard earned time. Keep telling yourself it wasn't all for nothing.
Picture your favorite car... Do you buy the next model each year or do you hold onto it because you love it? Too expensive, no problem. Do you buy new ice cream every week or do you stick with what you love? You have your comforts and so do I.
Have a nice day!

My Godness some people in this community are just the worst, are you really complaining about this. I like a lot of the weapons we have now but if o have to use/ rely on them any more I'll simply lose interest. Weapons are the most prominent thing you interact with in Destiny, if it doesn't change or be fresh enough throughout the game's life's cycle then what's the point really?
-
Day 1 player, honestly don't care.
-
I don't even care and you shouldn't either, all video games are time wasters anyway so why does it matter?
-
Well, if you wanted 10 years of using the same guns, I hope you picked up GTA 4 when it released. In 2 and a half years, you would have gotten your 10 years of doing the same thing over and over and over again.
-
Did those weapons not allow you to have success?
-
Works for me. Means I have all new stuff to get that my old OP gear won't outshine. That was my problem with HoW. Pretty much nothing I got in HoW was worth getting because all of my old stuff was so good.
-
Nothing? It meant something, without Year 1 grind you would have never used any VoG weapons, Ghorn, CE weapons or never played IB or ToO. Grind is worth at the moment.
-
That is how a mmo works... once a new xpack comes out all the old gear gets replaced dont play a mmo if you dont like it scrub
-
I know. I'm in the middle of grinding for the hopscotch over 100+ strikes in deep, I know it's probably not worth it but I can't let it end after all this time spent.
-
Wasn't it obvious with the don't hoard message that this is what would happen. I've been reading these forums and people getting excited to use old guns, but it was so obvious this would happen. The only thing that could salvage it a bit is as your light/armour lvl increases your guns do a little bit more damage. The new guns in the game maybe better damage but the enemy gets stronger too so really it's the same all the time.
-
I don't know about you, but I've had fun. Now I'm ready to discover new favorites. Goodbye old equipment, it was a blast, but I always knew it was a fleeting engagement one way or another. Bring on Year 2!

You can upgrade exotics but not legendaries.

Per Cozmo https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/144097729/0/0/1
-
You must not have played many looter shooters. Borderlands 2, one of the best games of all time, used this exact system.
-
My guess is that exotics and raid weapons will be upgraded. Why would they nerf and buff exotics if they were going to be useless? They also are nerfing black hammer. Why do that if the gun will be obsolete in the version of the game the nerf is going in to? It would be pretty silly to do all the work to upgrade and nerf all these guns if they were going to be useless anyways.
-
I don't want to alarm anyone, so sit down before you click the spoiler.
everything you do in a video game means nothing
Take some time to let that sink in
-
And so begins grind 2.0
-
Maybe if you shave your pubes, it will be easier to get the sand out of your vag.
-
I think it said Exotics should be safe....so might as well stop leveling anything and hold those weapon parts till we know more. Just bought a Red Hand and was really liking it to.
-
If you want to use the same gun for 10 years you sound like a boring person who is deathly afraid of change.

Edited by GrimL0ckDown: 8/4/2015 7:59:02 PMWow, you are slow. Playing any video game has been a grind for nothing.
-
:( don't make me feel worse than I already do...

Wow do people seriously not understand how expansion games work? A lot of people seem to compare this game to mmos so ill do it here. When you release an expansion for an mmo things tend to happen: -level cap increases -new gear/weapons become available that have better stats than the ones before making old ones irrelevant. -new content; places to explore, raids, dungeons (strikes on this case), new weapons/armor that are unique to the expansion -added game types and maps for pvp playlists When World of Warcraft gets a new expansion you don't see the forums blowing up saying "omg the last year or so was a waste of time because I can use my current stuff?!". They actually embrace the new things because if you enjoy the game you want it to be fun and new again which is the point of an expansion. The differences between actual mmos and Destiny is that most of then have a "transmogrification" system that allows you to use the visuals of a piece of gear on your character without sacrificing the stats of the gear you are wearing or want to wear. There storage systems are more vast allowing you to store more items so in case you want to transmog something you'll have enough space to store a piece of gear or weapon that is 10 levels below you. So if you're complaining about your "grind" being a waste of time is this; it was. In the end you are the making the game fun. If all you do is play and grind while not enjoying it whats the point of even playing? Yeah it's gonna suck not being able to use your old weapons and armor in PvE but there will be plenty of new and cools ones to get. They haven't mentioned changing crucible so at the moment you'll be able to use your old gear in crucible without being at a disadvantage. Who knows, maybe they will have a system that will be like "transmogging". I have enjoyed all the time I've spent playing destiny and can't wait for all these new changes. Get over the fact that you can't upgrade old stuff and thank them for actually making old stuff useful in the past 2 dlc's because mmos never do that.
-
Can you still acend exotic weapons and armor?
-
I'm coming back in 2025 when hopefully it's all sorted and probably worth playing again! See you then😜
