So according to the latest news, you will not be able to upgrade legendary year one weapons/armor. All those dragon strikes for Hopscotch and guess what... there will be stronger ones out. Those fancy adept weapons from trials... pfft sit down, we got bigger and better ones coming. Oh wait, the mighty Fatebringer will be no more. Gotta love the direction this game is heading in. 10 years people this is the plan. Mean while, $1000 later, regrind again.
In case you people still want to call it a MMO *cough From Bungie-
Destiny is a first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie and published by Activision. Released on September 9, 2014, Destiny marked Bungie's first new franchise since the Halo series. Set in a "mythic science fiction"
I love it! The flames are rising in the forums now. So many similar topics all over the place. I might change my name to Firestarter. Keep up the good work. This stuff is gold, especially when bored at work. I need more entertainment. Not sure how long this topic will stay alive before it's nuked like a previous topic I created. I also appreciate the defenders justifying their hard earned time. Keep telling yourself it wasn't all for nothing.
Picture your favorite car... Do you buy the next model each year or do you hold onto it because you love it? Too expensive, no problem. Do you buy new ice cream every week or do you stick with what you love? You have your comforts and so do I.
Have a nice day!

I honestly don't get why people care so much. It is just a game.
-
Had 1200+ hours of something to do. Not the kind of dude that needs souvenirs.
-
Firestarter? Your ego is so inflated and fragile you really think you started people being upset about this? Get some fresh air, your brain needs it.
-
My "grind" was 1,000+ hours of a lot of fun in a game that I thoroughly enjoy. Did you really expect to use the same weapons for 10 years?
-
It sounds like you are very emotionally invested, or a sad human. Either way, I hope you find something that makes you happy. Other people do enjoy this game, even with it's downfalls, but this should not effect you in the slightest.
-
At least we got something to look forward to...better that then no game at all. How many games have you sunk endless hours into and are no longer being supported or played? Despite its flaws this is still my favorite game and hopefully i can get another 9 years that would be great!
-
It's not worthless if you enjoyed the game. You know that's kinda what ppl are suppose to do with a game. Have fun playing it -.-
-
TLDR I wouldn't really say it was for nothing, I was playing for grimiore, exotics, and platinum.
-
Had fun and have stories
-
I'm ok with it
-
Really couldn't give a shit. It was inevitable as soon as it was stated that etheric light only raises gear to year 1 max.
-
I already deleted the majority of my first year weapons because I was bored of them, and I don't have NEARLY as many hours in as some people. I'm looking forward to the new stuff
-
Remember when Bungie stated they wanted people to have lasting stories and attachments to their gear ... gear that evolved and improved alongside the player and his/her adventures? Yeah, they didn't really mean that.
-
All new weapons and armor? Dismantle all my old crap? I'm in!
-
Time that would have been better utilised studying or leaning a new skill or language. Probably won't be picking up Destiny in the future because of this.
-
You will still be able to use them in the crucible. I was a backer for being able to level up our old gear. I didn't want to stop using fatebringer. But honestly haven't used fatebringer in over a month. It didn't take long for it to get boring using the same stuff that I had been using since the 2nd week of Destiny.
-
Tl;dr. Responding to your title, though: It meant a good deal. I may be burnt out at the moment, but I'll return for TTK. My grind wasn't for nothing. I had fun and I got loot. You might as well not play any Destiny until 2024, when the last game comes out, because otherwise, your grind from 2014 - 2023 will have meant nothing, right?

Twice in my life I have literally thrown away, sold off, donated everything I owned with absolutely no regrets. First time was my first divorce I gave my ex wife everything except my pickup. Second time was when I joined the army I sold off the pickup and everything I owned expecting to move around the country the rest of my life. Even now that I am medically retired due to multiple traumatic brain injuries I could sell everything I own or just throw it all in the trash and walk away. Even my kids ages 10, 8, and 5 can do the same. Sad thing is I'll bet we would all be better without it. So yeah a bunch of digital crap in a video games is nothing.
-
Its like an old pair of shoes. They wear out eventually, but do you call it a waste of money when you have to retire them? No, because they did their job in the time you had them.
-
NO ONE CARES I DONT CARE IF IT WAS FOR NOTHING THERE IS GOING TO BE NEW WEAPONS THAT WILL BE BETTER LEAVE IT BEHIND AND WRECK WITH NEW GUNS

-
Why do you want to use the same damn weapons for ten years?
-
I'm pissed about it, but by NO means am I quitting the game. Stuff like this happens in every MMO, for example, in World of Warcraft, each large expansion replaces old gear with new gear, and there isn't a way to use old gear to an advantage (Except Transmogrifying). However, in World of Warcraft, the expansions are HUGE, so nobody misses their old gear much, but, if The Taken King isn't as good as Bungie proposes, there could be a serious issue at hand.
-
People want variety. Closing off the old weapons to make room for the new isn't the answer. The answer is to make the new as good as the old so we WANT to change.
-
All these people looking at it wrong. We are paying for new stuff and getting new stuff. If you want to only play the old stuff with old weapons then you can do that. If you want to play new stuff then you are getting new weapons to use with the new stuff. That's kinda the whole idea of paying for new content. They are not taking anything away.... And besides the crucible is mostly lvl disabled so it's all the same.

my grind? all my effort? you mean sitting on my ass in front of the TV pressing a few buttons on a control? how dare they ignore all of my hard work!!!
