With which political theory do you align yourself?
Keep these economic systems in mind:
Socialism-a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.
Synonyms-leftism; progressivism, social democracy; communism, Marxism, labor movement
Capitalism-an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state.
Synonyms-free enterprise, private enterprise, the free market; enterprise culture
Socialism plays into collectivism just as Capitalism plays into individualism.
•Collectivism-the practice or principle of giving a group priority over each individual in it.
Alternate Definition-the political principle of centralized social and economic control.
•Individualism-a social theory favoring freedom of action for individuals over collective or state control.
I will keep my written opinion out of this thread as to not taint the poll.

Edited by RHDent: 8/1/2015 1:30:16 AMHuman beings are born, grow up, and die. If you're purely individualist, you leave no impact on the rest of the world, only on the relatively short life you lived. Atheism and collectivism are how I find meaning in life.

Individualist/Somewhat Collectivist I guess economically that would make me a controlled-capitalist or mild-socialist. I detest pure socialism and other Marxist ideologies because I am a strong supporter of autonomy for the individual. However, I feel that pure, unbridled capitalism also inevitably leads to the same thing since once well-established corporations form monopolies, take over the economy, and destroy any opportunity for others, individual freedom becomes a delusion. It's like when hardcore libertarians advocate anarchy--it's good in principle, but anarchy inevitably leads to some form of government once a particular group takes over. That said, I support capitalism but with some socialistic safeguards to ensure the integrity of the free-market and thus prevent the negative repercussions of pure, unbridled capitalism.

Edited by FakeQuasiMixture: 8/1/2015 12:07:38 AMSocialism is only as good as the people who do the work. If you get paid the same for working harder, why would you work harder except out of your own generosity? If you get paid more for more work, then you would have a reason, albeit greedy, to do more. The only problem with capitalism is that people who don't want to succeed won't succeed. You could say they deserve it but does any human deserve poverty even out of laziness?
