"Hello, Guardian...
Like you, and many others. We will probably be set on trial for yet another huge disappointment. That's right, I'm talking about...
The Taken King Expansion.
Us veterans (Who are self-titled to this crown.) have been playing Destiny since its epic release of September 9th 2014. We are now, seeing a true sight of many hungry corporate executives ruling the gaming empire.
Those who have bought the regular edition of this game paid 60$ U.S.D.
Those who bought the hardback limited edition paid 100$ U.S.D.
Those (like myself) who bought The Ghost Edition, paid 150$ U.S.D.
BUT NOW.
Those who are new to the frontier, can pay 60$ U.S.D. for the thrill of enjoyment by experiencing ALL THREE Expansions. Does this seem fair to day one players? (I don't think so.)
Say you pay 60$ U.S.D. for a cut game. Then another 25$ U.S.D. for The Dark Below and House of Wolves which added excitement for about a week or two into Destiny. (Personally.) Now paying 40$ U.S.D. for the rest of in-game content that was "taken" from us.
125$ Total for casual consumer.
Is Destiny really worth that much? A game that is a... 500 Million $ investment is this even true?
I feel so robbed from this expansive 10 year sellout. How much money will be spent in the end on this game?
My guess is up to 300$ U.S.D.
WTF IS GOING ON!?
I would love to know the ploy behind this marketing strategy and would love to understand why we have to wait YEARS to play this full game.
Rockstar releases Updates for GTA V that are immersive and let's not forget...
DRUM ROLL PLEASE!
IT IS FREE.
Will we ever get free content in Destiny, or will you keep milking the cow till it's deathly dry.
I don't know what I am going to do with this game.
Sincerely,
A loyal fan.
Ask yourself Guardians, will you defend Bungie and Activision for this content, or will you speak up against "THE TAKEN KING?"
Copied from a post on the Destiny Facebook Page regarding all of us Vets.
I love playing the game, I have loved bungie since the time I first played Marathon. But this is not cool... c'mon mates! Lets get loud.

Whoa calm down look at it this way. Destiny used is = around $20 The "DLC" as we know it = $40 The "real" DLC will = $40 That's how I look at it. Acti and Bungie should give it to people that bought the "season pass". The DLC had less than stellar reviews and gameplay. NOT BECAUSE WE'RE ENTITLED TO IT, but as an apology In the end they market the new DLC and are just trying to make sales. You think this is bad wait till they sell the whole kit and kaboodle for $60 at the end of this discs cycle.

I misread this thread title to mean something else. I'll just be going now.

Awesome post x The guardian speaks the truth, it's surely a question of honour. The games industry on the whole needs to address this issue of saturated markets and sustainable value for money or original purchase cost and dlc vrs. Saturated market offers, I.e. Reduced title price to maximise on future dlc sales. X Sometimes I think the majority of guardians are in the wrong job, we obviously have strong opinions about the game industry but not many of us seem to be employed there! Bungie... This fish is available x Big loves yall.

This pretty much sums up why I haven't preordered TTK yet. I'm still not sure what I want to do about that, but Bungie hasn't exactly helped themselves out by improving the game since HoW came out. If anything, it's worse, and the little information we do have about TTK and the weapon balancing update aren't helping either.

Its called business they want to get more players that dont want to get the game destiny but convince them with a bargain
-
Its called depreciation get over it
-
I spend more than that on a night out with my family. I am blessed to make a good living so the price is not an issue. I'll drop the 40 bucks and have hours of enjoyment which is worth it for me. In the end, video games are just a form of entertainment and you yourself has to make a educated decision on how to spend your hard earned cash. Good luck.

I'm still wondering how the borderlands community felt about the handsome jack collection.
-
so youre complaining about new players getting content a year later than you did at a lower price? content loses value as the years go on. and bungie is trying to easily get new players into destiny.
-
Edit: I'm have made an error in judgment. I am upset at some principles. But it is not enough to behave the way in did. After sleeping for a few hours. I find myself in armor neutral position. For any one i may have insulted. I am sorry. Everyone else: thank yiu for.the responses. Self reflection jusy shows me that due to financial crisis and severe need for sertraline and adavan... i was biased in my rantings about having to pay more for dlc I wish to get but cannot.. due to many financial restrictions. Hopefully i will obtain the funds to play Destiny The Taken King and be able.to.see you starside.

Real vets know this is simple whining that's been happening since the Alpha.

Edited by PizzaMan725: 8/1/2015 11:31:19 AMEveryone knows it will be sold for cheaper later, it's not some crazy new concept they pulled out just for destiny. I pay simply because I enjoy the game, I'm taking a break right now because I've run the game as much as I want and will wait for new content in September. If by some reason I don't feel I care enough about it then, i won't get it. Gaming is a weird hobby , if your goal is to save money.
-
Oh my god. People. Get over it. Things get less expensive as time goes on. Of course if you buy premium editions of stuff at launch, you're going to be paying more than if you bought it later. EVERYTHING is cheaper later on. Electronics, cars, etc
-
People are paying a lower premium for content we've been playing for a year. When a new COD or AC comes out every year, is the old game still full price? Nope. Destiny is an ongoing game. I'd rather pay for an expansion than buy a new game that's not compatible with the old one every year. I think some of these franchises (AC in particular) spread themselves a little too thin by releasing a new game every year. COD could even use an every other year release.

I'm not trying to defend Bungi£vi$ons business model but... If you bought the "limited" or "ghost" edition you also bought a pice of hardware. Both edition included "The steel case", "The leather bound map", "Star chart", "Arms and armaments" and exclusive to the "ghost" edition "a ghost replica". Those who really got screwed over was those who bought the game separately from the season pass!
-
You feel entitled because??? Get over it bro, that's life, enjoy the game or go away.
-
You don't understand gaming industry . Year 1 packs come out all the time .

As someone who was part of the Beta, a Day 1 vet, and now 'I am become legend,' I'm not all that mad. I WAS mad when I found out I could explore areas of the game that would later become parts of The Dark Below, and House of Wolves. It was pretty shady. But ultimately, those areas were blank canvases. Bungie doesn't have to always make things from scratch. It costs more that way. And this game is an investment, it's not your standard $60 game, it's a 10 year journey. It may not be the hype that was promised, but it is still one of the funner games on the market and it's sales continue to attest to that. The content bundle is sold at a reduced cost because TTK REQUIRES that content. They can't sell you TTK if you can't play it, so they have to sell it in a bundle that you can play it with. As for vets, we can save $20 if we want and just get TTK by itself for $40. Which is still sketchy, because that's basically the price of the season pass, but maybe TTK will be bigger than both the other expansions, who knows. Time will tell. But if you love the game, trust it. If it lost it's luster, leave it.

Edited by tresperros67: 8/1/2015 8:12:38 AMUs veterans......stopped reading, this is so pathetic. You bought a game 11 months ago, that doesn't give you any special title.

This is so dumb.
