So was the key the Janus Key?

Indeed it was! And if you recall, the UNSC and Covenant both have a half. This was recently resolved in Halo: Escalation, where Dr. Halsey set a trap for the UNSC, and got a hold of their half. Currently in Escalation, Dr. Halsey and Jul have just reached the Absolute Record. Don't know what's gonna go down, but we do know that Halo 5 takes place after the events of Escalation.

What is this Escalation thing you speak of? And, isn't the Janus Key in warframe?

Halo: Escalation It's an ongoing Halo comic series. It essentially continues the story of Spartan Ops.

Old post I know but I like looking through to see what I can learn. Only thing that irks me is that they resolved a almost major plot line with the Janus key in a comic....don't get me wrong it's cool and all but what about those of us that don't collect comics? Or those that don't stray outside of DC/Marvel? We don't have a synopsis or anything tying the events together and giving us the conclusion.

Then you won't know what happened unless it's summarized elsewhere. Just wait for all four Volumes of Escalation to be released and then buy them in bulk.

That's my intention though I feel sorry for those that aren't comic fans and won't buy them unless 343 do a synopsis via Halo channel or on disc for H5.

While I certainly recommend you get the books, I'd just like to point out that if you're interested in the Absolute Record story arc, Halo: Escalation is a comic series.

Oh ok. So for the final question of the night. Do you think Halsey will use the absolute record knowledge to help the covenant instead of the UNSC?

No. Although I don't know if she'll help the UNSC with it either. The UNSC certainly doesn't represent humanity as a whole.
