things are looking grim for the crucible, as each week passes more lag switchers and MTU abusers join the fray and ruin everyones time and effort.
well i'm here today to offer some tips for bungie to implement to combat these annoying rapscallions and i'm also open to community input so let us begin!

Edit: ping watch idea currently under rework
the recording method
- this one could be a simplistic method working two ways so i'll start with the bungie method
- basically this would be for every player you report in the crucible, a replay of the match from the reported players perspective and your own will be sent to bungie displaying the
- ping rate at the time in the replay
- connection color
- Internet speed
- weapons used(to avoid weapon glitches like thorns final round bug)
- armor and perks being used(to avoid another golden gun glitch problem)

this would be sent to bungie for review and they decide if the player is legitimately cheating or if its a false report
the secondary thing for this to work and this part is optional would be to make these matches viewable by the community and let people sort them out themselves for bungie to find easier
Example:
recording: 0003325 map: pantheon gametype: trials
recording shows billy007 is clearly using a lag switch and is popping in and out of existence in the game from the other players perspectives, and is also shown running into walls not taking damage,
- at this point players would bump this as legit and bungie would make the final decision
- other wise they would down vote for false reports or accidental reports, and every month the videos would be dumped for the next month of incoming reports.
any other ideas i find i will add after here and as as i said before i accept others ideas as well.
edit:so it has come to my attention that the ping idea is flawed in many ways i never claimed to be a networking professional and as i said i am open to new ideas as well as improvements to current ones

Lol! To think that they give two shits at this point is just silly.
-
Bungie already confirmed they don't wanna ban anyone otherwise they won't get to play The Taken King.
-
Edited by KurtPanzerNader: 7/28/2015 8:09:44 PMOmg did Bungie acknowledge this post?
-
There should be a system for this like in CSGO. Replays of reported players are sent to random peer players to review and got on. (For an xp reward maybe?)
-
I do like your idea? Lag switchers killed CoD for me. Such a pain, takes the fun out of gaming. That's why I play more PvE now.
-
Edited by duville: 7/28/2015 6:13:45 PMWhat if the router security settings block ping requests?
-
But the problem is what if they have cruddy internet or internet that isnt that great
-
Excellent idea, I don't even play trials because of lag switchers.
-
I don't know enough about how connections work to add a solution for this problem, I suspect it's more complicated than we think. When I check my connection to destiny servers, I usually have a solid green bar. However, sometimes for reasons unknown to me the bar drops into the red. Often it's green, but not a full bar. Does my ping change as the connection bar changes? What if my connection goes into the red while playing crucible? Will I get a warning from bungie to stop lag switching?
-
If matchmaking becomes a thing. This will have to be addressed early on. And I hope that it is. Wonder if all systems work the same though
-
Dedicated servers enough said
-
Matchmaking. Putting cheaters against cheaters with 8-0 ought to be a stream worthy match. On the other hand, if you wanna be really sneaky. Add one of these confirmed cheaters, convince them to Share Play, then delete their Destiny save files. That oughta make them rage quit for life.
-
Or ... Going on a limb here Activision can fork out the cash for dedicated servers and no one will be (red bar). I haven't been able to play PvP since Christmas ... That's not a joke. Not everyone who's abusing the system is doing it on purpose is something to keep in mind for these reasons I don't even attempt crucible but if your going to man hunt down lag switchers realise we don't all live in SUPER FIBRE OPTIC HAPPPY WORLD and the current system does not favour those with slower connections by coupling us with others with better connections. Rant over

Before you can accuse any player of Lag Switching and Cheating, make sure your not the one lagging. If you continue to shoot at a player but do no damage, chances are it's you. This could be because of your ISP or heavy traffic in you area, or something with your equipment. I know I have had problems with lag because of my ISP, and also bad cables at my end.

I log into destiny on ps4, and various things on my laptop, about 8 or 9 every morning. I have a very steady ping/upload/download until about 4 in the afternoon. About that time, everyone in the apartment complex starts getting home from work, and by 6-7 pm there are hundreds of people around me logged into the Internet within a few hundred yards of my apartment. When this happens, I usually see a decrease in up/down times and a higher ping to most servers. But, after 10 at night, everything returns to normal as everyone around me goes to bed. So, by your reasoning, I should be banned for a rise in ping, or stop playing destiny at peak hours of Internet use in my area.

Edited by Dim: 7/29/2015 7:22:31 AMMight as well ban/warn anyone with an ADSL, SDSL, or wireless broadband connection now. God forbid your ISP has any network congestion or have traffic fail over to a redundant path due to network issues such as hardware failures. Or how about if your ISP uses bit bucket (bursting), and your "bucket" is empty so you start dropping packets?. I could go on all day... Lmao, this is the dumbest thing I have read on these forums.

Edited by ChiefCsix: 7/29/2015 7:02:34 AMDoes this mean people running wireless with more or less stable connections will be banned when their connections inevitably fluctuate ? I mean I don't know much about this subject at all but doesn't your ping usually go up in a crucible match vs a patrol mission?
