It's probably been addressed a couple times before, but I don't think it has had enough notice due to other players not coming across it often, but there's plenty enough to bring it up. I know I have, and it's been making me a bit salty. The "Elder Cypher" challenge's second/third step, in which we have to wait on Variks to complete in real-time, is a toss up of too-long of hours just to know when we can move on to get the rewards we earned. I put a lot of effort in to finally beating Skolas, only to see that my grand prize isn't obtainable until the game says so.
Need I say it's been 4 days for me on this quest, now. One day is long enough, and it's high time Bungie calls for a change on this. We need to end the thumb-twiddling and be allowed to move on with this quest. This does not feel like a rewards at all.
Please, Bungie. Make it stop.

It would be nice if it was one day. But even if they reduced the wait time from the maximum being 5 days to it being 3 days that would be a better improvement then what we have to do now.
