I think the complaint is not so much about their ability to afford the Taken King, and more on their own value to DLC in general. Forgetting that Bungie has charged people plenty of bucks for maps. Maps. Some believe that DLC is content that was ripped from the game they already bought. Or content in the game, but just locked behind a pay gate. There are others that think a few bucks here and there is okay, but only under a certain amount. Because no matter what, additional content pales in comparison to the original content. They are of the hipster variety.
I don't think the "critics" or haters have fully grasped what is coming in The Taken King. For them they believe they are still owed something for buying Destiny in the first place. Just look at Lost Sols and all his posts. He believes Bungie owes him explanations for past DLC content becoming Nightly/Weeklies before he purchased the DLC. That he deserves matchmaking because it's demanded here all the time. Would anyone give into the demands of a psyche ward. It's more sane there than here. Also owed is an explanation from Deej about everything. None of these people want a conversation with Bungie. They want to interrogate them like they're Jack Bauer. It's very childish. You could ask them to keep it simple and sometimes they will acknowledge. But they won't do it. Give these raving lunatics the simple challenge of making an honest and clear request in the form of feedback, and you get Bungie needs to do this and that and this as well.
I think it is already more than obvious to every avid fan of Destiny that something drastically changed to Destiny 7 months before launch. Videos of Destiny in 2013 have a much different approach to what we have today. The composer was booted and the lead writer left due most likely to creative differences with someone at Bungie/Activision. As open and transparent as things are these days, some people expected an explanation. No business in their right mind would do that. Especially with a subject that involves a ten year plan. And no professional would divulge such secrets either. Yet still people believe Bungie ought to spill. In my personal opinion, I hate that they made no effort to show or tell things would be different from the 2013 hype to the 2014. But I just as much understand why they wouldn't do that for the sake of not derailing Destiny even by the slightest. I can only hold out hope that what we were shown in the early days may still reprise itself in the game series soon. That is what I am hoping for with the Taken King. Downside is, whatever terrible thing about it will be overcome by the new super abilities, thus paving the way to continued play into the sequel. Where the trend may continue.
As you may learn from most fans who never even knew these boards existed, most people don't care. If they don't like what they bought, they simply don't keep playing it. Without a word or even a whimper, they move on. There are those who have owned the game for months, even since launch, that have yet to go beyond the main story missions. Yet they had fun, and will probably get the sequel. Never mind the DLC.
If none of this got to you I'll simply say this: entitlement is among your worst traits. What you think you're owed, you are not. What ideas you think Bungie should use, they don't have to. Feedback is awesome in that way. They aren't marching orders. I'm really glad that nothing said here is taken as gospel from the community at large. I've seen some cool ideas mentioned here. Few of which are acknowledged in general. I'd say for most forum boards 66% is discontent, 33% very content, with 1% being pure gold. Bungie's feedback forum is like 85% discontent, 14% content, and 1% pure gold.
That said, simple feedback:
1) Would like to see more vault space for some of that new gear in Taken King. I'd be stoked for just 8 more slots for gear as example.
2) Clan integration IN THE GAME.
3) Skolas checkpoint? I get this could be a philosophical difference, but this has ruined weekends for my friends.
4) IB helmets? They are rarely in Lord Saladin's inventory. Makes me want to steal the gear right off his own head.
5) Shout out from Deej or Bungie in the comments. Cozmo would be cool too. Just because.
6) Accept my challenge to a Nerf war. Anywhere in Bellevue if parking is free or validated. Just say when, and probably wear. Must be Nerf. Not Busbee or other Nerf knockoffs.

The reason I am discontent with TTK is that I got roughly 7 hours of story out of the original campaign. Not bad... CoD campaigns are only 4 hours on their hardest difficulty, and Battlefield trails with a 3 1/2 hour campaign. But those games have amazing, and balanced, PvP. Thats what I like to stick around for, so that its new every time. Now, Bungie has the crucible, which is cool. I enjoy the crucible. But so many people cheat, and the servers are so bad, its almost not worth it. Its like they partnered with Playstation just so they can use their free servers and charge paying customers to play on them. But the real reason I am discontent is that when TDB was released, we got approximately 4 hours of original content. I don't count waiting around Skywatch for Urzog as content. Nothing new for PvP. At least in other games they release new better weapons or gamemodes. We got worse weapons that replaced vanilla gear, and a couple new maps in a custom playlist. Then HoW came out, and the same thing. A 5 hour campaign, at least this had a story though, and a couple hours on PoE. But this introduced ToO. I like ToO, even with all the garbage in it. But its not enough to keep me around. Now they want 40 dollars for TTK. It seems reasonable, they said it compares to the original game contentwise, but when looking at TTK and some of the other games being released, it just doesn't compare. Destiny got a free pass on launch. The other games coming out were just as bad, and so people decided to give a new franchise a try. It looked amazing from the trailers, and its made by Bungie. But then we got another day of gaming courtesy of Activision all for a mere $59.99. Now that they have real competition, they really are making it look like they dropped the ball again. I feel discontent because I was marketed an RPG, and I got call of duty with space magic. I was marketed an open world where if you can see it you can go there, skyrim style, and I got a linear shooter. I was teased with immersive multiplayer PvE and I got LFG. This game has just been one disappointment after another, not because I believed the hype, not because I built it up to be something it wasn't, but because I watched the ViDocs, and believed that since they are showing me pieces of the game, telling me about the game, interviewing creators of the game and having them tell me what to expect from the game, I believed them. I suppose its my fault, but now I can say the old line, Fool me once Bungie, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. But I assure you, there will not be a third time. If TTK does not live up to its current hype, which is borderline impossible, then I'm off to the next thing, and Destiny can become the Medal of Honor of the next gen consoles.

Several things: 1. You're right, Bungie has asked for a lot of money in the past for maps; but there is a difference between paying a little extra for goods and services for a company where you feel valued, and supporting a company that makes you feel peripheral. 2. Sols is a restaurant manager, so he knows a thing or two about engaging customers and making them feel valued. After all, a happy customer is a returning customer. Happy customers also create a good reputation through media and word of mouth; which, in turn, leads to more business. Unsatisfied customers create a bad reputation the same way, discouraging business. Myself, and may others, have not just spend time and money on a game, we have invested ourselves in Bungie and Destinys' outcome. A lot of us have been around since the Halo days and, in a sense, have been paying their bills for the last fifteen years; that being said, it's not unreasonable that they should be listening to us, unsatisfied customers and all. Speaking of which... 3. You seem to have your own misgivings about Bungie. How long will you stick around if your issues go unaddressed? How will you respond? Will you simply leave? Or will you post here with us and try to make a difference? I'm here because I care about my investment, I care enough to raise my voice, and I criticize because I care. Do you?

..somehow this op I find same as weekly updates from bungie. 1000 words written but but he said nothing.

Penis. Mature enough for ya? So because you make a long winded post that MAYBE 4% of us will read, your opinions are more valid than ANYONE else's? I hate to tell you but opinions are like butt holes, we all have em. And they all stink. Calling out people like Lost Sols and comparing his opinions to a Psychiatric ward is offensive and should be changed. Or do you enjoy being part of the toxic side in this community? I'm done wasting my time replying

Edited by BossyCandy: 7/26/2015 1:00:17 PM1. My so called discontent comes from what the game is and what it should of probably been which includes, disc locked dlc, no story, no matchmaking, lack of content even after the How and Tdb and unbalanced multiplayer. 2. I think lost sols posts are decent overall, I don't agree with everything but he's trying to make a difference, being an asshat to one person because you don't seem to agree with Sols posts is uncool btw. 3. It's about getting my value for money and I've played loads so I've probably made that up in that respect, but paying £35 for a season pass which had barely any content behind a disc lock is annoying, but paying the price of a brand new game(£40) for one dlc is disgusting. 4. A few feel they are owed something as they feel they have been let down buy this game, they bought bungies product and this product has been shockingly awful in many respects, what people really want is a great game and not be ripped off.

The difference is that I'm talking about Destiny and how it's failed and how it can be better and you're writing hate posts about me. The simple fact is that you and those like you are the only thing toxic on these forums. You can try to disguise your hate in fanboy pride all you want, you're just the forum equivalent of grade school bullies. You go post to post and instead of offering up reasons there shouldn't be matchmaking or justifying content lockouts, etc., you spew your vitriol in person attacks and your "get gud scrub" you put in your tags. So make all the sh**ty posts you want about people you disagree with, because when no one is left playing this game but you miserable filth, it will be a fitting end to what could have been an amazing game.

Many people are ignoring the fact that games like this typically have subscriptions or pay walls to support the constant maintenance and updating. Those costs are rolled into the dlc.

Edited by kingstack: 7/26/2015 12:11:29 PMFor me it is purely based on 3 things UK price point and vault space. I am not going to buy a dlc for more than I paid for the base game on launch day and as much as a full game. I fully support year one legendery weapons becoming obsolete over the full 10 year plan of this game. However I would like to keep them to remember the good times we had. Also I might want to occasionally run VoG in the future. The way they designed level difference in this game even when I am level 100 my VoC is still going to be one of the best weapons to use along with other VoG weapons. So I would like to keep hold of them! But to do that I need more space. Thirdly. We just don't know enough about what is in the dlc to make an informed decision to it's value.

In response to the title of your post, TTK isn't value for money if you live outside of the U.S. UK price $63 more than 50% extra and also more than the vanilla game. Australia $70 which is 75% more than the US price. Vault space is down to poor design, they went for looks over practicality, could be easily fixed by say having pages, one for primary weapons, one fo special, etc or even stacking like they did with the ammo synthesis. My biggest criticism atm is the price, I refuse point blank to pay more for a dlc than I did for the original game, no matter what game or how good it is.
