People are dumb
Exotics always in my opinion should be viable throughout the years,it makes sense to make them ascendable throughout Destiny's 10yr plan. Fatebringer,Found Verdict,Word of Crota&[b]Any Legendary Year One Weapons[/b] should [u]not be relevant[/u] years later. Who the -blam!- wants to use Fatebringer or Vision of Confluence for [b]10yrs[/b]?! Move on. Even if they make exotics un-ascendable.. Good,time to move on.

If exotics cannot be ascended, there will be a lot of backlash since that is about 63 exotics left in the dust. Exotics are very good pieces of gear and should not be thrown away, the new players won't even be able to use the gear effectively in the field as it will be ineffective to many of the encounters in the Taken King, assuming there is a huge level gap after 34.
