343i's Explanation of Cutting Splitscreen
The decision to remove split-screen support from Halo 5: Guardians was one of the most difficult ones we’ve ever had to make as a studio. We know that for many of our fans, Halo has meant playing together with friends in the same room. We all have great memories of past Halo split-screen multiplayer matches. To move Halo’s gameplay forward and deliver a true next-gen experience, tough choices had to be made. Our decision was driven by a desire for scale, fidelity and focus to ensure that we would deliver the best quality experience possible. With Halo 5 we are delivering massive scale environments, improved AI behavior, increased visual and gameplay fidelity… something that truly takes advantage of a new platform. Many of our ambitious goals for Halo 5 would be compromised in a split-screen setting and the time spent optimizing and addressing split-screen-specific issues would take focus from building other parts of the game. Game development is a balancing act of resources, time and technology, and in this case we made the tough decision to sacrifice something that’s been near and dear to us all.

i feel like one of the only long time halo fans who is actually excited that for the first time singleplayer wont be played with super weak and useless AI as backup the few times that they are actually present
-
Why does everyone compare it to Star Wars Republic Commando? Ghost Recon did the same thing before SWRC came out pretty sure
-
Sounds awesome. Can't wait to play.
-
We'll see you next sector
-
Your Team Is Your Weapon
I'm having Star Wars Republic Commando flashbacks here. The only new thing listed in squad commands was telling teammates to pick up different weapons. Other than that, very neat. RIP split-screen.
-
I'd like to know where specifically these other areas they're focusing on are. Does anyone disagree with me though that splitscreen should come in later as a free update? Most of Halo players want it, and whatever they're supposably focusing on in it's stead will have been done by then.

Falo 5 equals terrible
-
I love you, no homo
-
I still want splitscreen. CE splitscreen with my old man was the sh!t.
also, GSGT BUCK IS IN HALO 5
Edited by ReignofSpartain: 7/27/2015 12:49:20 AMYhea i heard drop in drop out and didn't believe it for a while. It's already looking like republic commando, they are moving away from party experience to single player which tailors to some and less to others
now that I think about it, ppl complain about the revive system because it's like cod... But wait, REPUBLIC COMMANDO did it first, so they are copying republic commando rather than cod (same thing I know but it sounds better when it's copying from RC

"Was it, red red blue? Or red red green" "And he is supposed to be the demolitions expert"
A lot of my favourite moments in CE and 4 are John charging down a formidable enemy on an alien world, completely alone. Exploring these enormous, ancient places in complete solitude was one of the most atmospheric parts of Halo, and now that's gone. :/

Halo is probably the only game I could be considered a Fanboy I've loved every game and their MP's I'm not saying they didn't have their own issues but I've enjoyed each for the experiences they have brought. Some say H5 will fail others think it's going to be the best thing since porn either way I'm looking forward to enjoying the campaign and its MP.

Why is the arbiter there?
-
Sounds boring and gimmicky. Plus all the characters will be dudebros knowing 343. The splitscreen decision is tragic but I can't blame 343, that's MS fault for making such a shitty console that struggles to maintain 60FPS on single screen. Just 2 awful companies working alongside each other to deliver an ultimately unsatisfactory experience.
-
wait..... CAN I PLAY AS AN ELITE!? :DDDD
-
Rip co-op games
-
I can't remember the last time I used split screen because me and my brother both bought our own consoles
-
I get that some people would still like Splitscreen but I don't understand the rage. I've not played splitscreen in about 8 years. Surely most people who are keen Halo fans and gamers will have a console anyway? It's one of the reasons I bought my One.
-
Anyone wanna guess at the other team member's special traits? More melee damage for Fred? Better aim assist for Linda? Any ideas?
-
Split screen died with the dinosaurs.
-
Republic Commando 2, is that you?
-
Edited by Krash Nebula: 7/26/2015 11:54:41 AMIdc about splitscreen campaign as much as mp I hate it. No more family Halo nights
-
Or… or… they could not have those teamate traits, and have splitscreen instead.
-
Halo: Republic Commando!

I didn't know each character has a unique trait. That's a nice touch imo, it'll make co-op a whole lot more fun by strategizing to use each characters specific advantages. And drop in drop out co-op on dedicated servers?! Give it to me now
