Weirdly enough, Genesis states that snakes had legs before God took 'em away for fooling the silly hoomans. Not trying to argue or anything like that, but definitely interesting.

The Bible (ooh a scary topic) actually answered this by saying that the snakes punishment for giving the apple to eve was that he lost his legs and so did his race. So yeah garden of Eden 120 million years ago.

If you've never seen a python's pelvic spurs before, they're little vestigial claws left over from when they had feet. They look almost exactly the same as lizard claws.
