I've been thinking. In PVE and PVP, when we want to kill something quick, what do we do? We switch to our heavy! We blast that guardian with our rocket launcher! We gun down that Hive Knight with our machine gun! But what if there was a third option? Something with the massive damage like a rocket launcher but with a more focused approach? I'm of course talking about a Rail Gun.
It would have higher Impact than a rocket launcher and more range than a machine gun. It should only be able to carry 1 round in chamber and no more than 3 rounds total. It would basically be a ultra powerful heavy sniper with the emphasis on timing and precision.
For those that don't know what a Rail Gun is, it's basically a weapon that fires a magnetically accelerated round at ultra high speed velocities. It's a futuristic style weapon so it would make sense as a reclaimed Golden Age technology.
I personally believe that this would be an excellent addition to Destiny, possibly at Taken King. If you like the idea please chime in!

Person launcher

Wasn't there a rumor about a new class of weapon that was going to be heavy? Or maybe that was about the disappointment known as sidearms
-
Grenade launcher... Less explosive damage but more ammo and higher rate of fire than rocket launchers.

I'm going to flip your focused idea backwards. Instead of long-range focus, I'm adding two different types, of great similarity. Gutters: Close-range, high-damage melee weapons charged with a lethal energy-based blade comprised of elemental Light. Specializes in taking out high-health targets quickly, or picking off one at a time before the enemy can react. Specialties/Weaknesses: Gutters have a very short range, deal astonishing quantities of damage, and are agile and speedy for successive attacks. Their charge reserves are low, due to the size of a battery needed for such an output. When equipped, Gutters' batteries slowly deteriorate, even when not in combat. Cosmetics: Although many imagined an Energy Sword, it is actually a standard-designed sword, with a cylindrical, compact, and thin hilt. The "blade" is actually made of pure elemental Light, projected from a rod in the center. As for ammunition, it runs on a charge. It has no overheat cool down between rapid hits, but upon reaching the end of its battery's charge, the blade goes dead, and it slowly reforms around the rod when a new charge is replaced. Warhammers: Brutal and powerful, these tools of destruction deal heavy damage in a short radius around the point of impact. The Warhammer is a technological integration of Golden Age technology and age-old tribal warfare tactics. Large and slow on follow-up strikes, this device of combat is meant for rushing enemies and dispatching large quantities of them in one fell swoop. Specialties/Weaknesses: Larger ammunition reserves (or, more accurately, batteries), and do not lose charge while equipped. With extended range, the Warhammer delivers significantly weaker damage output, but in an area. Even enemies not hit directly with the Warhammer are jarred from the force. Specializes in dispatching larger amounts of weaker enemies faster. Can also be used to stun larger opponents. Cosmetics: Similar to the Gutter, the Warhammer is made of a futuristic metal, with a long rod for the hilt/handle, and a large rectangular device rests atop the pole. It is an intricate piece of equipment, not a simple conduit for energy like the rod on the Gutter. Elemental Light shines from within out of small ventilation systems on the side of the Warhammer's head. The head is engulfed in a faint aura of Light, it's hue variating based on the specific Element. To reload, the device on top of the Warhammer is removed and replaced.

Yeah and make it have some kind of charge time before death. Personally though I would rather have like a laser or anything that's not bang bang any more

Gravity Hammer Gunblade

Spartan laser!!!!

Edited by KKorrupt: 7/24/2015 5:05:53 PMIdk about you, but if I had to choose between a Rail Gun and a Rocket Launcher, Id choose rocket launcher 100% of the time. There's no need for a rail gun; just use a sniper.

WE need this. I think the sleeper simulant is one of the new heavy types.
