Hi! This will be a long read and sorry if I deviate between subjects so I hope yor eyes are ready! As everyone knows, there is gonna be weapon tuning in the next patch, this weapon tuning will bring with it a refreshing (and possibly better) side of the PvP and PvE meta weapon wise.
There are gonna be changes that will make PvP fun again and end the era of some perhaps OP weapons (Thorn, anyone?). But they also bring some rather strange changes (I am looking at you Icebreaker..) and some that just makes us sad like Black hammer and Gjallarhorn (well, how should I know, I have never gotten it).
But in between this changes, the excitement or disappointment (depending where you stand with all this), I noticed something is...missing. One class was not very present and I think many of us know which one is but we rather overlooked it. That weapon class is: Sidearms.
And I can hear you commenting (Why do sidearms even matter? There are only TWO in the game). And normally I would agree but bear with me for a second. As we know sidearms where just installed as their own class in the House of Wolves dlc. With only two of them, one can imagine there is not much to do balancing wise but they are wrong.
See how they weren't even addressed in the post of weapon tuning? This could mean that there is nothing wrong with them and I would say "you are right" but in that same post they told us the specific utility (range, damage, purpose) of each class, except sidearms and it may just be me but sidearms are in a clunky space range and utility wise.
When you are in close range a shotgun is the obvious choice, when mid to close range a fusion rifle should be optimal and almost always a one hit kill and at long range the no brainer would be a sniper rifle. So in all these classes where does a sidearm stand?
Well, in most cases a sidearm is from mid to close range and is in some aspects a good replacement for a fusion rifle but they are just a very much different style from each other especially when comparing both existing sidearms. Vestian Dynasty fires in semi auto from shot to shot so it is a more steady option than the normal high impact fusion rifle and the infamous Dreg's Promise is burst controlled making it the aggresive option and more fusion rifle-ish.
The thing with this is that they are not very well introduced in any particular aspect. But what if there is no need to fix or say anything about sidearms as a whole?
Dreg's Promise, most of us know that this weapon is barely above or in par with Necrochasm in its current state. Both having the title of an "underwhelming reward for a hard path", but now we know that Necrochasm is getting a buff, so why not Dreg's Promise?
I am not gonna lie, my favorite weapon is probably Dreg's Promise because it has lore value (some) and it is a cool novelty new weapon to have (indeed) as a guy with no gjallarhorn I often find myself with no exotic in any particular field so I chose Dreg's Promise from my first elder cipher and playing with it was just satisfying and cool but there is a reason it is so underwhelming: it is clunky.
Just as simple. Sometimes the hits won't register well and the bullets take a load of time to reach the target, ricochet is basically useless in most situations. So if sidearms are not addressed then at least the only exotic in the class which is considered uselesss should, wouldn't you agree? Imagine..Dreg's Promise giving consistent hits registered, faster time of travel, a little more impact and base damage and bullets that track enemies or at least ricochet shots do double damage.
A perfect world isn't it, so I say "what is stopping Bungie from turning this exotics and the sidearms class as a whole into a very good class in either PvE and PvP"?

I see sidearms as an alternative to people who don't want to use fusion rifles but something similar range wise. Right now, as there are only two, sidearms are trying to find their place in the destiny world and they haven't quite found it yet I guess. Personally, I don't know if they need anything or what it would be if they do. Its true though that the currently only exotic sidearm needs some buffing.
