Building off of dredd1973s post about bracketing trials, I have another suggestion. I posted this in his thread as a comment, but thought it could stand on its own.

Start up Trials of Osiris and play for the week. Any player who achieves a flawless run for that week is moved from the general trials into the next bracket. If you don't make it, you stay in the general trials.
For the sake of ease, we will call this bracket Delta. Week two rolls around and Delta starts. It has its separate rewards table from the general table. If you go flawless in Delta, you move on. Don't go flawless and you move back to general.
Week three rolls around and now players are in the Gamma tier. Go flawless there and get Gamma tier rewards and prepare to move on. Fail to go flawless and move back to Delta.
Week four introduces Beta tier and rewards. Win and move on, fail and move back to Gamma.
Week five we have Alpha. If you have been earning flawless every week, then you have made it to the elite of the elite. This tier is a true champions tier, with each round consists of epic match ups. Go flawless and be treated to unique Alpha rewards and remain in Alpha as a champion of the trials. Fail to go flawless and you move back to Beta, ready to reclaim your glory.
Trials, in my mind, was meant to separate the good players from the weak. It currently separates the good players and the players with $100 and the players who sub streamers and the players who blatantly cheat from the weak players. The exotic emblem is a joke, when I join crucible and see them in last place. What was once mighty in week one has become laughable. Don't truly good players want a way to show their true skills? Trust me, sniping me takes no great effort.
This tiered style bracket for Trials means that players who are poor will have an opportunity to become better and not instantly crushed by an Alpha level team. I literally can't even get into trials now because everyone requires flawless before allowing you on their team. General trials will be accessible in this tiered system. There will be less pressure and players will have the ability to grow in skill and map knowledge.
If the intent of the Trials Of Osiris was to create an event that separates the weak from the good from the great, this system is a much better way to do it, and rewards those players accordingly, with loot and fear that is actually a status symbol in Destiny. If the goal was to increase twitch streamer subscribers, then mission accomplished.

If it was balanced, I'd participate. Maybe even snag some of those higher tiered rewards. But this is a quasi-mmo with multiplayer, not a multiplayer shooter with mmo elements. There are a handful of weapons that actually function in Trials, and it is very frequently a distasteful experience. Why? Because skill is SWAT. 2 weapons that everyone has. Only headshots kill instantly. It takes teamwork, precision, and bang-on reflexes. This unbalanced tat-mobile that hands out shet left and right is the most destructive force in the game so far. Why does the gear have more perks than regular armor? Why do the weapons have better perks than their PvE/Prison counterparts? Why do people get the only exotic emblem in the game for playing against scrubs on the same internet tier but far lower skill? Why the fck am I always matched against 4.0Kdr no-lifers? Why does the PS4 controller have lower input sensitivity than Xbox One? Why is the game's sensitivity on the whole so low? Why doesn't Sony/Microsoft console-ban lag/switchers? The list goes on forever.

Brackets or tiers for trials would be epic, you could easily set them up tied to player light level Nice idea Bump
-
Bump, then trials would be worth it for me. I could possibly make 2 tier. But at least that means ill have a chance to see the lighthouse
-
I usually rip on people who want trials to be made eaiser for them by putting up with same skill level. But this is hell of a better idea. This I could live with
-
Bump!
-
Bump better matchmaking for skill level ranking also
-
I actually like this idea but I don't think I'd change the bracket each week. I have gone to the lighthouse with all 3 characters almost every week and it would be nice to add an additional challenge. I think it would be cool to be put into another bracket each time you go flawless within the same week for a chance to earn additional loot.
-
The. How would I be able to play with my regular team. I've been flawless 7 times they've only been 5. So I have to drop my team because scrubs are crying cause they suck. Every week you have the same chance at going to the lighthouse. The point is to let good pvp players have something to be proud of. If the scrubby players can get to the lighthouse then theirs no reason to even play
-
Awesome idea. ToO should be something not controlled by streamers or fat wallets.
-
I love it, even though ill stay in general most likely. But bungie would screw it up.
