By necessity, they are played over a network, such as the Internet. MMOs usually have at least one persistent world, however some games differ. Like Destiny for example. You can play on multiple different worlds.

No, because they don't require Internet to play. You can play multiplayer split-screen ln Halo and COD and the Campaign on all 3. They need Internet just to play online games. MMOs require Internet to play ANY THING.
