Guess it's a force of habit on my part. In CQ-senarioes hip-fire tears apart shotgunners and blinkies, while you can still sort of stay at a range. I only really use shotguns if encountering multiple enemies or when beeing rushed. In open areas it's easier to pick your battles and the choise between a long- or mid-range weapon is more obvious.
