It gave you infinite ammunition. The only perk similar is String of Curses on Bad Juju. And that requires you to kill. Black Hammer only requires you to get 3 precision hits. Bad Juju is obtained after a quest line you have a random chance of getting. Black Hammer is obtained after killing Crota on Normal difficulty, a fight determined laughably easy now that many people can easily get 2 levels above everything in the encounter.
The White Nail perk was Exotic tier. Bungie had 2 options: either make Black Hammer an exotic, or make it pull from your reserve ammo.

I'm sorry but the bad juju bounty was so -blam!-ing easy, easier than normal crota.... It just takes a grind for the quest and then wait for xur and play crucible I finished it within a week and a half and only because xur left

It's not infinite ammo, you actually have to land precision shots.

And on bosses or majors (where it was used most often) hitting 3 precision shots isn't a momentous task.

That can be said with any gun. This game isn't that hard period, they nerfed it over nothing. Nightfall and weeklies are not that hard.

What? It doesn't matter it can be said for any gun because no other gun has you follow those parameters to refill your magazine. I didn't say that Black Hammer is the only one that can hit 3 precision shots.
