[quote]If Destiny had a nuke it would be the “Ballerhorn.” We definitely intended to have a high damage Heavy Weapon that was ideal for PvE destruction. What we did not intend, and what we unfortunately saw, was pick up Raid and Nightfall groups gating participation based on whether or not players had this weapon. Gjallarhorn was so strong that for many people it had become the only answer to getting through tough encounters, and therefore they were less willing to spend time with other players that didn’t have it.

Yes they did..
Also I doubt your idea is the actual reason they did it.

You can believe this dude. No probs. I won't. As I keep saying. Why has it taken this long to nerf it? Doesn't it seem like a bit of a coincidence that they are nerfing it in preparation for the taken king coming out?
-
Maybe, I'll just wait and see what they release. I'm hoping it's remotely good

I forgot bungie is the holy word of God and never has lied to us. I wonder why they kept saying us there isn't supposed to be a third subclass when we knew....
-
I figured they would release the 3rd subclasses later with 'comet', along with many other goodies. What did you think was going to happen? Free content?
-
Several leaks confirmed there was a missing elemental subclass for each class, bungie denied it in any number of ways they could and low and behold, here come the missing subclasses that where leaked. I wasn't expecting free content, but we know well from experience bungie lies about many things and can assume their reasoning for most of the nerfs aside from the statistical ones are false

I think a majority of people's opinions are conspiracy theories to be honest. And some others are just plain trolls :(
