Today is a sad day for Destiny veterans. The most gratifying reward in the game has potentially been stripped of its crown. Gjallarhorn does more good than harm for this game. It's the one reward everyone looks forward to the most. Even if you have one, it still feels like a special a moment when it drops. When everything else became expendable, and duplicates were no longer feasible, the 4th gjallarhorn was still hard to delete. It's kept a lot of players playing. Either in search of one or the joy of owning with one. If Bungie takes that away, they better have something to replace it with. Even then, people will always reminisce of the days gjallarhorn ruled the Destiny universe.
If Bungie wants people to play together, they should incorporate more matchmaking. If anything, gjallarhorn will become more of a requirement after the nerf. This past week I ran 34 POE. I barely even wanted to do it as I have no need for a weapon core or etheric light, but I did it anyway because I knew it was something I could do quickly with the right team. One of the kids was using tomorrow's answer for the Kaliks Prime fight and it turned out alright because the rest of us were able to make up for his lack of firepower. Fast forward to weapon tuning 2.0 and now I may not be as willing to pick up the slack. I will find the most efficient way to accomplish some of the reward bearing "chores" in the game. If my team isn't capable of that, I'll find another. As the amount of activities increase, the less time I have in the week to run everything on 3 characters. Gjallarhorn is a way of easing the pain for veterans who enjoy playing with other veterans. Players being turned away isn't going to change. What should change is the ability for these players to pair up with each other and spend 5 hours trying to kill Skolas, down Crota, or smash Atheon. That solves the problem in my eyes, not ruining the best gun in the game.
I know what its like as a day one player. To wait all that time while it seemingly drops in bunches for everyone else. Every Friday hoping that was the week Xur would sell it again, while simultaneously hoping he wouldn't for the sake of preservation. I feel for you, and it sucks it may not be as special now when it finally does drop. The day it dropped was the day I realized Bungie's philosophy of keeping it holy was right thing to do all along. Imagine spending your whole life saving for a Ferrari, only to find out it was restricted to 55MPH the day it showed up in your driveway. I truly hope it isn't as bad as that. I've enjoyed the this game and the thrill of chase for some time now. Gjallarhorn should stay the same. If you agree, speak up, and let Bungie hear your voice. Save the Gjallarhorn.
