It wasn't a must have, it made bosses go by quicker. Destiny bosses are nothing but bullet sponges, so when a weapon tears up said sponge quicker, people want that weapon

True, very true. But that doesn't make the nerf a bad thing. To be perfectly honest it created an obscene amount of exclusivity in raid teams. The weapon will still be good but it will create variation in weapon usage in PvE
